...or people don't make a big issue out of it and just don't post?

Anyways (I hope) it's nothing you need to worry about.

i got 2 already.. both displayed the same message on idrive which was "warning! increased emissions". the first time it was the transmission pump gone bad and the second one was a faulty cam sensor. got both of them fixed but now i have that tupperware tapping sound during idle. as a bonus i ran over a dead deer on my way home the day i got my car back from the second malfunction

Maybe they put too much oil in?

"increased emissions" is usually a faulty sensor giving an incorrect reading to the DME. The dealer will be able to tell exactly which sensor it is, and upon replacement all should be well.

It is sometimes related to other issues.

My car has started giving the "increased emissions" message -- twice, so far. Both times, it was very cold out (teens). I had started the engine, run it for a few minutes, shut it off, then restarted because I was running a bunch of errands.

Anyway, the car didn't seem to have reduced power, and after a few drives, the error went away. I called the dealer, and the SA said it wasn't anything to worry about, so I figure that as long as I'm not losing power, I'm okay to wait 'til next scheduled service.

Anybody else had just the "increased emissions" message?

In my E92 335i, I once had the dreaded "reduced power" message. The car was out of commission for about 2 weeks. They completed the repairs on the first day I was away for a 12-day vacation. Almost a month without driving a BMW. TORTURE.

Got the "increased emissions" message today for the first time - under exactly same conditions you did - very cold - minus 20C and running errands so 3 or 4 start/shut off/restart. Will drop by dealer if it doesn't go away

I've had it happen a few more times, and it seems to clear after a few days. It hasn't happened for a while now, so I'm not sure what the heck it is. Drivability / performance don't seem compromised when it happens, so I'm not really worrying too much about it, but I'm still curious as hell.

Busted TCU, replaced and they still can't figure out what's wrong with my iPod and Aux integration. iPod and Aux worked all of 5 days total since I got the car. Waiting to hear from BMW.

TPM Malfunction

My 2008 M3 has had the "TPM Malfunction" a few times as well. The dealer (Schomp BMW) simply gives a blank look and says "thats a new one on me". I was not happy when they simply checked the pressure and reset the system. I had the "tire pressure low" once before and this is not the error I get.

The dealer looks at me like I am crazy, but it seems there are others out there. I do remember it happened once when I went over a bump in the road, so I am thinking it is a faulty sensor. I would love to know what fixes it.

Uh yes, that is true of most first year cars.....These cars are more powerful than the computer you are using. Awesome piece of equipment, and I don't mind the trouble. Just hate the dealership looking at me like I am stupid.
