Wiper blades - can i just buy the rubber?
Not the most intresting topic but here goes:
I used to be able to replace the rubber on the wiper blades with the old style wipers, instead of the whole blade. Can this be done on the new style wipers for the e92? I went into bmw, but they told me i had to buy the whole wiper. Is this true? |

On this side of the Atlantic all consumables except tires are supplied by BMW for the first 4 years / 50k miles. This includes wiper blades and wiper fluid. As is common for most wiper blades these days, it is very difficult to remove the old rubber, but it can be done. Measure your wiper blades and see if a replacements are available at your local auto parts store. I agree with just replacing the rubber. It's wasteful to repace the whole unit when only the rubber deteriorates.

the last time i looked at my wiper blades, the new style ones dont really have much of a frame to begin with... i dont even think you can separate the rubber from the "frame" of the wiper blade on the m3

When you first get your car, does BMW treat the windshield with some of that rain-x stuff? Whenever it rains, the rain just runs back and I don't even have to use my wipers. It works GREAT. It's like there's Teflon on the windshield. Anyone else experience this?

Seriously, for Rain-X to work properly (and stay on the windshield) it has to be applied very aggressively. That's why I use the liquid form and a buffer. It remains active for months (6 months for the current treatment). The wipes should work also. You just have to put some elbow grease into it.
