Drove 09 DCT - no problems
Stopped by the dealer on sunday and they had an 09 DCT coupe. Went for a longinsh test drive and wanted to test the DCT known issues.
Glad to report - the car felt perfect. No lag on upshifts, no hesitation. Did not stall on me Also tried several on ramp entries from about 80 and hard braking - no problem - willl downshift from 4-3 and from 3-2 under hard braking. Wasn't quite track simulation since i was on public roads but felt great. I had a novice student in an 08 with DCT and the downshift problem was quite obvious in his car. Also new navigation is great. |

guess the car you test drove already had 1200 mile service? somehow...
thought DCTs had low rev limit before broken in all the way.... so if you couldn't get to 8k+ rpms to test the downshifts... then how do u know the prob is fixd? |

No rev limit at 4K on the car. It's a myth - the same as manual. The car can be revved and has the same power at 0 miles.(most cars and BMW Performace center have less 1200 miles and are driven hard ) The only thing missing on the DCT is Lauch control.. available after 1200 mile service. Other wise - no difference.
Downshiting problem did not occure at redline. It happened at threashold braking. |

I drove in the e46M3 SMG and switched to e92 all within 5 minutes and the difference in immediacy of shifts was not noticable between 2 cars - hence my comment on no lag. I accelerated hard from 1st and second gears out of the ramps and stop signs and switched when the lights approached red (just like SMG).. I tryed S5, S4, S3 and I believe i was in the visinity of 8K RPM. If i go again I'll test specifivally for this issue. |

It's dead easy to flick the paddle at over 8k and shift before the limiter is hit, a child could do it now. Just wait and see when your car gets the update. |

There is no actual limit in revving high than 5500rpm. But doing so is not recommended, both in the manual and on your window sticker.
But like everyone here with an M3 I too have accidentally when over the break-in limit on at least 5 times, one as much as 7k when I thought I was in D mode and was in S mode instead. |
