M3 = Track....Yes or No?

Okay, I'm sure we've discussed this but humor me since I have not seen it here.

I've read several times the advice that "if you don't plan to track the M3, then purchase a 335." So.....how many of you own a M3 and have not placed it on a track? I know the car begs for a track but I'm wondering how many of you use it as a touring, non-track car. Is it worth the investment (or would you advise against the purchase) if you don't plan to race the car.....your opinion?

You need to turn this into a poll and ask people how many track days they've had with their since they got it.

I have yet to drive mine on a track and have no plans to in the near future. This car is great on the street, but it does beg me to take it to a track and let it rip.

I normally track all my cars however this one's a little expensive for me to mess up. Maybe after I've owned it a couple years...

Had it since July with every intention to track it. It is replacement for my previous "track car" but unfortunately, I've been so busy that by the time I finished the M3's break-in period, I had already missed all the remaining local track events for the season. Now track season is over in my area so the M3's cherry will not be popped until the first track event this coming March at the earliest.

I've had mine since June and so far 1 track day...... M3 + track is ADDICTIVE...in a bad bad way.....M3's were designed for the track..& it shows in how they perform....

However if you do not plan on tracking an M3, I mean never ever....then you would be better off with a 335i...save the $20k, insurance and gas...... Yes the M3 looks better than the 335 and is more exclusive....but only to a trained eye (think by someone like us) everyone else just thinks its a BMW

With that said I will not be tracking my M3 again anytime soon....why...because I just bought a dedicated track car.....but if I didn't the M3 would be on the track A LOT next year....

Owned mine since July, have tracked twice and will autox this weekend hope to track again Nov and again in December. Even so, no plans to track should not keep you from this car. At all.

Also, I was told that if its classified as a HPDE course, then your regular insurance does cover it?.....sounds not right to me, but wanted to confirm.

Garage List
The 335i is more than enough car for the road. I personally would not have gotten a M3 if I didn't plan on tracking it.

I have not tracked it yet and will now have to wait until 09 as most the driving events in my area are over. What I am really looking forward to when going to the track, is to LEARN how to drive and not simply to drive fast on a track. I will probably start with the M driving school especially now that the BMW CCA membership provides a hefty 20% discount!!!!

Some of them say they do, but when faced with a major claim, funny things happen. Some of them flat out say no.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152124

There is info on where to get insurance here:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=156969

Several track day organizations have links to their website, so they must be legit. I use them. There are no run off areas at my local track and even a minor spin can result in major damage.
