it works for me, and the shut down seems to be good news for owners, bad news for potential owners.

Less cars equals higher residuals and higher selling price

We expected this.

BMW does not want 100s of '09s sitting on the lots next fall like they have this year with the '08s.

The Regensburg factory is where the M3s are made. I wonder how much 5 days shutdown will affect M3 buyers here in the US. Of course, if I had one on order and it was scheduled to be produced that week then I'd be pretty pissed about waiting another whole week.

Well, I guess the 0.9% financing hasn't mad much of a dent. It seems like they could stop making M3s for months and still not sell all of these.

I think that dealers also shoot themselves in their collective feet by filling their allocations with too many $70,000 M3's, and some nonsense combinations of equipment (too many Premium Sound added options but no folding seats nor Sunroof in the Sedan, for example).

The economy was already hurting way before the E9x M3 showed up last March, so dealers did have time to adjust but they did not, and this is the result, the.9% financing rates, the almost nothing lease rates, the M School, the invoice pricing... we should see the extension of these programs until December and even some serious trunk money by mid November.
