What color is closest to true silver?
Can anyone tell me which color is the closest to a pure and simple silver? Planning on an e92 M3 w/out sunroof, so it will have the carbon roof, which I want to stand out. I was planning on white, but now I'm thinking a silver might be better. My 335 is black and is the 4th black car I've had, and I'm really sick of trying to keep it perfectly clean, avoid swirl marks, cringe at water on the road, etc..... I dream of actually drying my car w/ a towel!! I just want easy for a change.
So which is the closest to silver? Is Silverstone too blueish, is Space Grey too dark, and hard to clean like my black? Thanks. |

SSII is sweet!! If I could do it all over again I would get Silverstone II, yes it has a blue hue to it which to me is a desirable feature. To answer your question.. SSII is the closest to silver, more-so than Space Gray.

SSII is a beautiful color. The blue is very subtle, nothing like Mercedes Diamond silver which is way too feminine. We were ready to order Space Grey for the same reasons you are, until we saw SSII. I think it shows off the angles of the car best and doesn't show every bit of dirt like the darker colors.

Silver
Titanium Silver paint code 354 (affectionately referred to as TiAg from the periodic table of elements) is closest to silver. However you must special order it and it is $4,000 more than regular metallic paint on the e92 M3. It is available on most other BMW models including e92 335i for $550 metallic paint charge.
Otherwise silverstone II is closest. It has a slight blue hue but not as blue as Silverstone. |

Thanks for all the input. Does Space Grey show dirt? I know they say Seal Grey on Porsches is very easy to maintain. Also, does it show swirl marks? I'm honestly having a hard time w/ the blue tint on the SSII.
Last time I was at the dealership all they had were red and dark colors. |

SSII will look quite blue on 1. overcast days when 2. next to a "normal" silver car. But it doesn't look bad - it is picking up the color of the sky. It looks incredible in direct sunlight, and I was shocked at how good it looked the first time I saw it at night with some lights on it. I would check out the official silverstone II thread with all the pictures - that is what sold me on it.
Space Gray is significantly darker and will show *some* swirls, but will be substantially easier to keep than black. |

I had a 335 in SG and currently have an M3 in SSII. To answer your question, SSII is more silvery than SG plus SSII is M exclusive. I like the bluish hue. All of my friends like my color selection of SSII than my old 335 of SG. Actually nobody mentioned that they like my old SG 335 color.

I would say SSII as well. I am going to order SSII on my M3 (Coupe or Sedan I don't which one to go with) and I am having a harder time choosing an interior either (Black, Red, or Gray). Any thoughts on the Interior?? Trim will probably be Carbon Black.

I love black. Looks great; very elegant - even without the extended leather option, and very easy to maintain. I like the other colors as well, but feel that they should be ordered with the extended option - I don't like the clashing on the center console.

I went with non-extended silver with Alu trim. There's some pics if you click on "Dr. T's Garage".
