Updated M-DCT Clunking !!!!
I just picked up my new E92 M3 with DCT on Friday and had them flash it with 31.1 prior to pickup.
As everyone has noted the shifts are lighting fast and smooth. From what I remember from all the test drives. the system is much more responsive and smooth. However, the Surge as its called is less but I would bet the outcome is the same. My Question to all that have received the update: After about 150 miles on the car and the update, I am noticing a CLUNK when shifting into gear. Reverse or into N and then into either D(X) or S(X) Also, when coming to a stop. It seems to be more than the first few miles. Is this Normal???? Thanks for the responses Last edited by FunRevn; 10-21-2008 at 12:38 AM.. |

Clunk is normal, and I don't have the new software yet (Going in next Monday)
Clunk is inherent in M vehicles - had it in the E46 M3, E60 M5, and the Z4M coupe. |

Anyone with the update still clunking. I could swear it wasn't there when I picked it up from the update.. Could have been all the excitement of a new car though. (got the update prior to delivery)

goddamit!!!.... and I never noticed the clunking until I read this thread. Took it out to lunch and now I notice it. Only way to make it go away is to make the music louder. I don't think it's a problem, since my M5 did the same (and I noticed that one) but the M3's clunk is definitely more subtle.
Ignorance was bliss.

yup i have it too and it sounds less obvious as you past 6000km. I love the sound really as it sounds mechanical. Its small things like this that adds to the experience.
