Project: Make my M European

Ok guys, and ladies,

I want to make to M3 E90 SSII as European (German) as possible before I go overseas and spend double on EU taxes...

Phase I: what to change?

This is my wish list so far:
1. Euro Front Bumper w/ headlight washers (edit: no longer PDC front as US software does not integrate with PDC front)
2. Fog lights swith (edit: fog lights already built in Black lines...)
3. KMH Speedo (edit: off the list, as calibrating will not work)
4. Yellow/amber front light off (edit: maybe use the front fog switch to swith off amber front lights?)
5. Blacklines with amber turn signals
6. Speed limiter removed (let's wait for this until I have actually on Autobahn with this car)
7. Remove the US safety text in: mirrors...
8. German License plates brackets in SSII
Please let me know if you can think of something I need to add to my list.

Phase II: where to get the stuff? at what price?
1. I saved some money and ordered clear reflectors from JLeviSW... $70
2. OEM: 6131 69 32 796 - about 75USD - on back order
3. N/A - off the list
4. N/A - soldeering some outer LED wires??? Anyone?
5. OEM: 6321 04 06 678 - 200USD on eBay - on back order
6. About 2.400EUR - from Hamann
7. OEM: 5116 80 46 499+500 - price??
8. Trying to find on the web...

Edit:
I found this webiste, which is not too bad: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do
Enter the last 7 digits of your VIN and see
However, if want European parts, click EUR version of your car...

Some pictures:
1. Pic stolen from someone on the web, not my car... sorry!

2. Not completely M3 EU, but I like this switch better, might the other button for switch off amber front lights

4. How to get this outer LED off when headlight are on?

5. Just in case you don't know what Black lines look like...

Phase III: Change the car M.

I will post pictures along the way it is transforming.
Keep you posted.

Thanks.

A.

Don't forget to get rid of the cup holders on the passenger side.

Also, Pilot Sport Cup + tires (maybe not all countries).

The final and last thing you need to do is move the steering wheel to the RHS.

Or Sweden.

Looking at your car, your front bumper looks the same as mine except for the bright orange reflectors. Also, we don't get fog lights in the UK either, so adding fog lights to yours wouldn't make it more European. I have cup holders for both driver and passenger as well but what about storage nets behind the front seats, do you get those in the US?

as far as i can see,the only thing you need to do to make it more european is the side reflectors delete and you're set for europa..and you can keep the LHD,only few countries actually drive on right hand side..

or if you really wanna go uber-european..few things you can do..

1)door handle(s) delete
2)mold all your bumpers to the main body/fenders
3)dump your m3 on airride suspension (forget edc working with this hehe)
4)go with 16' BBS OG rims with either gloss gold or black centres
5)paint the car dakar brown or some weird colour shift paint with 50% tint on all windscreen/windows
6)dont forget side mirrors the size of a fist (round in shape, integrated into the a pillar)

is this the look you're currently looking for?? hey actually can someone try photoshopping this??would be interesting to see how it looks hehe..

Officially, you are right, but I read on another thread that the tires are exactly the same, except a E logo is missing, and a DOT logo is inserted...

I'll let that one go.
Thanks for the respons!

Some Euro delivery customers have experienced no Real Time Traffic Information in their USA E9x while some did not have any issues in Europe with it. Unless it was an issue of production date, it is worth to check it out at your dealer.

DON'T install front fogs. You need to keep the air intakes free to allow air in to keep the brakes cool. This was one of the key changes from the E46 to keep the brakes cooler

Audi R8/RS6 style fogs would probably work in front.

E9Xs don't have cooling to the brakes. I'm playing around with the idea of injection molding to fabricate a set for the front and rear.

This could be because in Germany this is not a "free" information.
Probably you have to pay for the service?

I don;t like the traffic info too much, it's not accurate and it sends you through back roads where traffic is even worse, but not posted on TI.

More internals ..... you'll need to remove the HD Radio and Satellite Radio if you have it and replace it with a DAB radio receiver available in the UK at least. However, since your car is for the USA market, none of the wiring harness will be there to support it, nor the i-Drive software.

Then you have the TV tuner if you want that.

Then there is front PDC ...
