just noticed the 6MT doesn't roll back
I know you all know this but I haven't read the manual yet...
was on an incline today, went to N, then put it in first gear held clutch and let go and it sounded like it clicked and didn't let me roll back with no brakes... pretty cool I thought... tried it 3 more times to be sure, and each time, the first time going into first and letting foot off the brake, sure enough it doesn't let you roll back... maybe all cars have this? I haven't owned stick in about 15 years lol..... geez, I think I'm getting old lmao.... anyhow, cool feature

That's the new feature in the new M3. It will hold the car in the same position for 2 sec while driver taking off. lol

I'm used to it now, though I didn't like it at first. the timing initially threw me off because just as I was releasing the clutch the brake would roll the car back so my take off would get more messed up than if I had just launched on the hill without any assistance. now I'm used to it and appreciate the feature. makes it much easier in tight spots on hills in particular.

They all have this feature, which is called hill assist or something like that. The computer will apply the brakes for a few seconds to prevent roll back, but only for a few seconds. I don't like or need it.

Subaru's have this feature too.
It's nice, but not necessary if you know how to drive stick. IMO, if you know how to heel-toe, you should be able to survive without hill assist. And if you don't, you should stick to the parking lot or AT cars.

I belive its called start-off assist and it was a feature when BMW implemented the new braking technologies a few years ago, there was brake stand-by, start-off assist, automatic brake drying, and there is one more that I can't remember.

Great feature if you don't forget about it at the track. If you leave your car in gear after doing your laps on the track and there is a small incline in the paddock where you park, hill assist will apply your brakes to prevent the car from rolling. If you then turn off you car the brakes will still be applied and if your rotors are still really hot, you'll warp the rotors. This is analogous to using your e-brake after doing laps. I found this out the hard way to the tune of $2800!
