Can DCT owners drive manual?

I'm just curious to see how many DCT owners actually know how to drive a manual transmission? I'm not trying to be offensive, as I know manual transmissions will probably go the way of the typewriter soon. Just wondering.

Just drove an M3 6MT at PC during the road safety training class before picking up my 2009 M3 E93 w/DCT. Guess I don't understand the purpose for the question

Lol, I can!
In Belgium, you had to do your exam with a manual... No it doesn't has to be anymore...
In a amount of time, the MT's will dissapear I think... AND NO, I dont hate MT, I love it!
But I love my DCT aswell

Owned more manual cars then autos. I feel it is unfortunate some people haven't been taught how to drive a manual. I insisted my son's 1st car was a manual ('89 325is) because I think it is very important to know how to drive it.

Yep, this is my first non manual car since i started driving in 1977, and i think it's a great invention/technology/whatever.

I have always been a manual kind of guy and have always had at least one manual tranny car in the garage except now that I sold the RS4, the only manual I have is a pathetically slow subaru legacy wagon 5mt, so that doesn't really count. So this is the first time in my short 10-year history of owning cars that I don't have a sportier fast car with a manual. Don't miss it one bit. The DCT is amazing and there's no looking back. Funny part is that although I've become quite good at heel-toe downshifting at the track, the DCT still outperforms me by a good margin yet somehow feels satisfying even though I know I didn't have to do any extra work beyond clicking the left shift paddle.

I think that most of the enthusiasts posting on these forums (mostly males) who have gone the DCT route have at least some experience driving manual transmissions, and a majority have known how to drive one since they first got their drivers' license. However, if you poll the average M3 DCT owner outside the internet world, you may get a surprisingly different result.

Don't laugh, but my wife insisted we get the DCT because she wanted to drive the car. I liked the 6MT but found the clutch take-up a bit abrupt. Plus, I think that the DCT easily shifts faster than I ever could.

Any idiot can drive a manual, the question is can you drive a manual as well as the DCT. A friend of mine has an e90 M3 6 speed. He drove a session at the track with my DCT and he says he knows he is faster with the DCT, and he is a CCA driving instructor with 25 years of experience. I know I will never get proficient enough with heel toe etc to be as fast as the DCT.

I don't "own" yet. I've just ordered mine, but, yes, I can drive a manual.

I've got both, don't think the manual will go away. Each one has it's benefits.

Have the DCT now and, yes, I can drive a 6MT. I had one in my E46 and about 6 other cars before that. It was difficult for me to believe but the DCT is a work of art and science.

Definitely can, but wanted to try something different.

It's definitely not rewarding driving a DCT and that's why I just leave it in auto mode most of the time.

I've always had manuals, but I'm planning on the DCT when my current 335 lease is up.

I think you have to be experienced with manual shifting to truly appreciate the DCT.

30 years of driving manuals with only a two year period where I didn't own a manual. I drive my DCT more like a manual than an automatic.

i had a manual car for 4 years before. it was a lot of fun when i wasn't stuck in traffic all the time, but reality is i'm stuck in traffic all the time. i would have got a 6MT if i didn't live in the middle of dallas.

you can't truely "know" how to dive unless you can drive both
if you can only drive auto then you don't know how to drive
knowing how to drive means i can put you in any car on the planet and you can drive it
that's my 1.3cents (2 cents depreciating in the current financial crisis)

dont think you are going to get many ppl to admit they dont know how to drive a manual, tho it's not as if learning it is that difficult to get proficient
