car emails mileage to bmw? is this true?

i have 700 miles on my new m3 e92.

Im sitting at work when my phone rings........... it was bmw of roxbury, New Jersey calling me.

The guy on the phone was a service advisor, he told me my car emailed him my mileage and he noticed i was due for my first service. i told him i havent hit 1200 miles yet... he stated the first service is dues between 600-1200 miles.
He knew my exact milaege and claimed that my car reports mileage to the service department on a regular basis.

is this true, if so how due i disable it, i hate these dealers harassing me to come to service i find it annoying.

yes. i dont think u can turn it off. the car will notify the BMWNA system, not the dealer, of your mileage. your dealer will send you a letter around that time to go get service. when u go there they'll pull up ur information from the system and the record from the car tells them what they need to do

It's under the car settings in iDrive. You can turn it off. You can also manually tell the car to send a service request.

it's only if you have bmw assist... it sends all the info via satellite to bmw... same thing happens when you bring you car in for service and they pop you key into that little thing on their desk... all the info is downloaded....

Agreed. That is how I understood it...only if you have Assist, which I don't.

You don't have to sign up for it. It's already wired into the vehicle.

I too got the same call a few weeks ago. Now I'm worried if BMW can find out if I was at the track doing a HPDE event.

I don't know about the disabling part. Hopefully it's somewhere in the menu settings.

What he said. I think it's a pretty nice feature that serves as a reminder.

It seems then that the dealer would also be able to determine the max revs of the car, and if the car was revved beyond the recommended 5,500 RPM. Not too sure I like this feature haha

The dealer can find this info without BMW Assist. It's logged in the factory ECU.

Mine is fully loaded except the winter package. I'm in the UK but so far haven't gotten a call or any mail about any software updates. I've got about 6K miles on mine and already did the 1200 service back in July. I wonder if the assist works in Europe (UK) mainly??

If your car is equiped with Teleservice and the service is started in the Assist part of the idrive, detailed vehicle data are wireless transmitted. Doubt you can disable it, just say "Pls remove me from your list" when you get that spam phone message again

This feature is useful for BMW Roadside Service

That's funny, I haven't heard anything from BMW NA. I was at 1700 miles when I took my vehicle in- no phone call. As a matter of fact, I haven't even received a customer satisfaction phone call for my new vehicle purchase. Consider yourselves lucky.
