It's how I got mine. Can't remember the last time I needed a map to get around where I've lived for the past 28 years. I don't go on enough road trips where the extra $ for Nav was worth it.

Do you mean cheap as in money wise? Or cheap as in having an m3 w/o navi is cheap?

You'll probably spend more money on gas by trying to find the place without the navi then you would by buying it lol.

Yeah it's called a single hump. You can buy a basic m3 that has nothing but the engine and steering wheel lol.

It's smart to buy one that way if you don't need or want nav/tech. I love mine. If they made nav or tech standard in the US, I wouldn't have an M3 right now.

i havent missed having a nav system on my 08 one bit, but with the new idrive then perhaps yeah i would have reconsidered. but im definitely not losing any sleep on it. unless you travel to a lot of places you dont know where you are going, then i dont feel that it's a big deal at all. people really make too big a deal about gadgetry. considering how much people say they want to go back to the days with the e30 m3 and less weight, the market seems to want a bunch of random convenience stuff that i never use to begin with.

I'd say reducing the clutter of cords is the MAIN reason why I got my M3 with SatNav. I mean, come on, my Garmin 350 outperforms the best of OEM SatNavs by a wide margin.
No I don't like hardwiring my V1.

If I could have M drive without also having nav I'd do it in a second. I don't like OEM nav systems, they're always a few steps behind the current portable nav units.

If buying an '08, I would have been very torn between a one-humper or navi. The navi for the old iDrive was so bad at what I would most commonly need it for (POI searches) and was so slow that it would just piss me off. Also, the one-humper's dash line looks much better. That said, I would probably still get the tech package for the m-drive and other performance gadgetry.

Aside from the higher resolution screen, hard drive, and dvd playback capability, the new iDrive is so much easier and faster to use, and the 3D maps are very cool. Now POI searches take seconds, not minutes. Also, the overall functionality of iDrive is much improved. I would HIGHLY recommend the tech package to anyone considering an '09+.

This thread shows how far the "M" buyer has fallen from where the brand started. The first M3 was a race car modified for the street.

Now this thread shows most people insist on having a Nav on a M car. Then they'll also bitch about how much this car weighs. Now there are rumors of a Motorsport X6 coming- not just a IS version like on the X5. This is just a sad day in M history.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
