Likely due to a lightweight flywheel. Every car that I have had before got extremely loud once I installed the lightweight flywheel. The sound I hear sounds exactly the same, but just a little quieter, so I am guessing lightweight flywheel.

+1. but it's not THAT bad. I had the same on my G35, when im at traffic lights people would turn to look at my car so i get embarrassed and had to depress my clutch the whole time
so yah @ OP: perfectly normal in sport or race-oriented clutches |

yeah i hear this tapping/grinding noise when the clutch is not in, but disappears when i press in the clutch. it's annoying, but not that loud. the M transmission clunk is what really annoys me!!

Funny that I read this post because I just noticed last night that my car does this too. I guess it's normal. I wonder why it sounds like that...

I never use N... A long time ago, I was told, it's not the best thing to do for a car... so better turn off the enigine. Like new BMWs 1er and 3er have: stop 'n go - system, well at least in Europe...

I posted this question awhile back, I too was very concerned.
People were explaining that it was the flywheel so I accpeted that. The following day I pulled up to a 80's something Toyota Tercel with a kid at my car and it sounded exactly like my M but enhanced a bit more. I was in a smart ass mood so I asked him what kind of racing flywheel he had to make it sound like my M. |

Its from the clutch pressure plate, dual stage lightweight clutch's have weights on the end and when the clutch is not pressed in they make noise, when the clutch is pressed in and the springs have tension it stops. I had a centerforce in one of my drag cars and it used to do that all the time but louder.
Its called clutch chatter. |

That's the kind of thing that gives M drivers a bad reputation.
