Picked up M3 sedan 2 days ago.....

Hello all. Just picked up my 2008 M3 sedan on Tuesday and have some questions. First off love the car, I own a 2007 M5 and and 2003 M3 and I've got to say, this one is the most fun!!!!!! I'm a newbie to this forum but currently own 3 M cars and have had 6 within the last 9 years. First questions pertains to my Mdrive settings off the options menu. To enable those settings, do I have to have the power button pushed on near my shifter to activate, and there is also 2 lights on the edc button? Do I also have to have them lit? Also, is anyone experiencing wheel shimmy at around 90mph? I'm taking it back to BMW tomorrow to have the wheel shimmy looked at. This is going to be my wife's daily driver and would like to have her key settings dulled down for comfort, but if all she has to do is push the power button, that kind of defeats the purpuse of the individual M drive settings. Thanks

Oops. You might want to read the manual. Basically, hitting the M-Button will set your settings to whatever you have specified in M-Drive iDrive menu. There's no need to worry about the buttons on the console or dash. Just hit the "M" button on the wheel and you will be all set.

Indeed, if she hits the M button she will get "full-on" mode as you have programmed it. This is a bit of an oversight by BMW. Realistically it would be nice for them to have both the M button and startup settings be key-dependent for all possible M-Drive settings.

This is my bigest gripe with the car.

I want to be able to define my default settings for my key (e.g. EDC to standard instead of comfort and DCT to D4 instead of S3)

I wish it had a screen in the display that showed current status of all the settings.

The other thing about the Mdrive that doesn't work right is if you activate it, then manually change one of the settings, the "M" on the dash stays lit. You look down and *think* you're configured the way you set it, but it might not be. When you change one of the settings manually, the "M" on the dash should go out.

totally agree. my wife is an aggressive driver and wish i could adjust key settings so that she isn't able to hit the M button. also on the m button, what does pushing the power button at the shifter do if the M button isn't pushed?

The power buttons just make the throttle more sensitive, usually makes it easier to heel toe downshift, but I personally find sport plus a bit hard to drive on a daily basis.

How would you compare the steering of the M5 to the M3? Heavy, light? Which do you prefer?

Looks great!!!
