Trunk Lid Reverse "like" lights...what are they for?

All, checking out my new M3 tonight and noticed that what I thought to be the trunk lid reverse lights dont light up...what are these bulbs for ( the ones that look very similar to the reverse lights - but are in the M93 trunk lid lenses)? I tried all the different lights, turn, brake, parking and they did not light up......

Are you talking about these lights?

If so they are the adaptive brake lights that come on only under hard braking. The augment the normal brake lights under hard braking.

They can also function as the rear fog lights which are standard non-US cars. Some folks have added the non-US light switch in order to be able to use the rear fogs in the US.

The rear fogs are great for very rainy days where there's a lot of spray from multiple vehicles usually on interstates. I also used them while running Watkins Glen in the rain (the car throws up a lot of spray at 120mph).

I also use them on tailgaters. It works about 70% of the time.
