BMW's 1946 Sercret Revealed, Neat things about your BMW.

From the original thread,

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182565

Part 1, The Begining.

Hi fellas, hope you are all having a wonderful day. Have been reading this thread and yes it is quite funny and although a lot of us know of these features, new owners don't.

But do all of us know all the features & some tricks.

There is one feature not known to many and I have owned BMW for over 25 years. I have since spoken to my service dept to confirm what I am about to tell you, which was told to me by my father just before he passed away.

After being sat down in back office at the dealership and strangely enough the State manager was also there, he apparently was called in to look at warranty problem they were having. Anyway a couple of coffee's later they ask, "before we acknowledge or denial" we need to know how you came across this information. They seemed to be worried whether corporate theft had occurred; I think they weren’t too happy about it.

So I told them the story about my father (who was Dutch) and living still in Holland in those days was taken by the Russian’s and ended up on the other side of Europe. At the end of World War 2, around 1946 he started his way back towards Holland, a journey that would take him 2 years to complete before he rejoining his wife a family. A family that thought he had been killed, so you can imagine how they felt when he walked back into house after some 2 or more years.

Anyway, back to my father, on his way back to Holland he worked as a security officer in an Art galley in Vienna for a period of time so to have money to buy his way across Europe as it was a dangerous place between 1945-1947.

After leaving Vienna he was partly taken along the way by a gentlemen fleeing the Russians and the occupying American, English and so on, oh I forget he meet this person at the Vienna Art Gallery, a patron. This person was high up in BMW during the war, of course they built airplanes & munitions and was wanted for aiding the German's during the war.

Well after travelling together for some days and both of them trying to elude the occupiers of there country and the Russian, the car they were travelling in stopped. It was a BMW of course but everybody in those days drove BMW's, what was different was what was hidden in the boot, gold & art works.

It was then that this gentlemen showed my farther the special feature the BMW had under bonnet and had been built in every BMW before and is still there today.

Well you should have seen the looks on these fellas in this back office, one got up walked out, on the way out he said I will be back don't say anymore, OK I said and then asked for another coffee.

Back to my father again, he was Police Commissioner in Holland that's why the Russian took him, he was luckily they didn’t shoot him on sight and that's why he got the position in the Vienna Police as security detail for the Vienna Art Gallery. They would not let him leave by not issuing papers to him so not to be able to leave Vienna as people like him were hard to come by, so he had to escape Vienna as he did Russia.

I am not sure if this part is true but my father said this gentlemen told him a story about the gentlemen (Mr Diesel) who invented the Diesel engine which ran on vegetable oil (later converted by the oil companies to run on there product but still retained the engine name and fuel name Diesel). Anyway he was found floating face down in the English Channel, he said BMW did it and not the suspected oil companies.

Ok, 30 min goes by and the state manager comes back into the room and says, how do we know it was your father that told you this and not an employee of BMW, only head techs and state mangers know off this and we need to know for sure. I said I have one of the paintings from the boot of that BMW that the gentlemen gave my father for helping him flee Vienna and it had his name on the back.

The state manager walked out of the room, he came back 20 minutes later with a piece of paper in his hand, sign this he said and I will give you an answer.

So I signed the letter and the state manager confirmed what I had said was true, all of it and yes it is still there today under the bonnet.

I turned over the letter and there in big black letters it read at the top : NON DISCLOSURE NOTICE.

There is more to this story to follow as I have since beaten the Non Disclosure Notice.

Part 2, The Secret is revealed

Part 2 "The Secret is Revealed"

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, but I have been evolved a little overseas, jet-lag plays on one's thoughts as does airline food & drink.

"Non Disclose Notice"

Yes, I did forget to tell you that this notice of non disclosure was signed in 1985 and the passing of some 23 years has since now made it's binding principals loose it's legal restraints some what.

As has the other people's involvement, time and old age has taken its toll and certain party's have gone to meet there maker, so to speak. The last 10 years have been relatively quiet with only one exception being in late 1999, on the 15th of March, yes the "Ides of March" for those who don't know that's when Julius Caesar was warned by the Soothsayer he was going to be killed, and as you know dear old Brutus & Caesius had stabbing good time at killing him.

Yes the knife, well that's what was used on the back of the painting that was handed down to me from my father, the painting from the boot of that BMW in 1946. A knife was used to try to scratch the name off the back of the painting but they cut the canvas. It was noticed because on the 15th March 1999 we moved house and upon taking the painting down the small cut was revealed and as was the scratched off name from it's back.

When this happen who knows, 1985 to 1999 is a long time but it makes know difference. 35mm photos taken of name on the back were done many years before 1985 and as you know x-ray’s and ultra-violet light shows these signatures a 100 years after they have been removed. But Dr Zipprich director of BMW is well remembered, arrested in late 1945 by the SS and then disappearing? Lots of people started disappearing in late 1945 and show up years later. (One secret revealed). What ever happened to Dr Zipprich I don't know and I have never tried to find out and others may wish not to bring up what happened 50 years ago.

But some people do have long memories and some secrets are supposed to be just that "Secret"

"It's finally Revealed" Part 3, shortly!

Part 3 Final, "The secret is Revealed"

What you are about to be told, is uttered, talked about in dark circles and puts smiles on BMW accounts.

BMW has been a successful company, and still is, from its pre-war days, post-war, through the sixties and seventies, the eighties with its change of direction to the present day, the secret has remained. 1908 to 1946 and to 2008, a secret that has by its mean’s made BMW what it is. A secret that has rewarded BMW with million of dollars, guarded, hidden, treasured. A secret that helps BMW rise after each fall, the pre-war years, post-war years and again in the sixties.

A 100 years has passed, the models may of changed the secret has not, you see it every time you lift the bonnet, it stares you in the face, a grin appears on the service managers face “if only they new” he thinks as you both pier under the bonnet. Other manufactures cannot understand why BMW keeps bouncing back, The Mini success, MG demise, The Rolls, a secret, where’s Ford.

For the secret to be revealed the following is required and must be adhered too, not deviated from, no second thoughts. You will be shocked, annoyed and even may change brands but remember one thing, without this secret there would be no BMW and the one reason why we buy BMW. A secret that gives your BMW extra fuel economy and more HP and has done for over a 100 years.

Firstly, to reveal the secret you need a screwdriver, pliers, two rags, 100ml of fuel, 1” brush, the secret remains under the bonnet its just in today’s BMW the final message is now in iDrive.

We start, pull the bonnet, carefully using the pliers & screwdriver remove the air filter cover, with the first rag place a 100ml of fuel to dampen and wipe the inside of the air filter intake box to remove all dust, this is an important first step, the lid as well.

Now take hold of the OEM air filter and hold it up to the light, the dust needs to be removed; this is where the 1” brush is used. Carefully clean using the brush, when finished do not use an air-compressor to blow clean as damage may result to the filter, you need to use your mouth to blow the remainder clean, the co2 in your breath coats the elements and gives the desired effect that is required. It is this co2 on the element the maintenance section in iDrive will reveal its secret.

To finish wipe down the filter with the fuel covered rag and polish the filter lip with the remaining dry rag, refit the filter lip and drop the bonnet.

What you are about to learn from this secret is something you spend hours at the dealership for, spend large amounts of money on, drink many cups of coffee on and go home feeling rewarded. A BMW secret success that has made BMW what it is today?

Revealed: On current BMW’s put the key in the ignition (on old models you need to find a special word on your invoice hidden amongst all the items of works completed on your car) and turn one step to turn on the accessories, go to idrive, Maintenance, Scheduled, push ok and there before your eyes, the secret which you have paid dearly for and rewarded BMW techs with your cash to splash, a secret you knew but never realised, a secret you felt but never dared ask, it was always there in the back of your mind, there before your eyes it says, revealed, the secret “Your Vehicle ……………………………………………………

Has had an "Air Filter Replacement"
