Rear Diff is done..upgrade recommendation?
Took my car to Malek recently and he said my rear diff is toast.
The car has 125,000 miles so it's just worn out. What diff options would you guys recommend? Car is street driven with some canyon driving and very occasional track use.

for a street car and an average driver just get another diff from diffsonline, dan will rebuild you an oem type diff and youll be good to go again.
buying a used diff with 70k+ plus miles isnt worth it.

Have it rebuilt by a BMW diff rebuilder. If your 2008 diff failed in 2022, you should then be good to 2036.
Consider skipping M Variable. You will find the threads discussing. A rebuild to old school style done right right performs as well or better and lasts longer. I would not jump to one of those expensive aftermarket brands but some think they are great. Worth looking into though. Lots of info in the diff threads. |

E39 M5 ZF carrier is the way to go. Not overly expensive and way better than the M-Variable.

I was so lucky to find one locally with a bad pinion. $500CAD for the whole pumpkin. Sold the case for $200 and kept the carrier.
