Coming from a C7 Stingray
Sadly , about 4 weeks ago now my C7 Corvette was stolen. I should be settling things with my insurance by the end of this week if not the start of next. Since i have had some time to look at the market , i knew i wanted to go down from a V8 for now. Wanted something slightly better on gas since im starting real estate and i cant afford to get a Z06 yet. So getting a M car is the most obvious choice for me. I have a car in place that i will most likely be buying but i won't show it yet until its offcial.
Anyone else come from a C7 ? How has ownership been switching to a foreign? this would be my first non american car. (i'm 21) |

Wish I could offer you some insight but I've always been a German sports car guy. Porsche, Audi, BMW.
The main difference I believe will be, you get less HP but in a much nicer package. American cars are all about performance often at the cost of quality. The Germans, they don't care so much about HP or straight line 0-60. They build cars that smash apex's. |

I have owned two C7 Vettes, 2017 base and a 2016 Z06/Z07 both Auto, also I have owned two M4’s, 2015 6MT and a 2019 DCT during the same time. First off the Corvette is a Chevy, everything is cheaper. What you gain with the M car is some back seat space, but also it is a different driving feel. Also the Vette V8 may actually be more fuel efficient because boost can be addictive in an F8x.

I had a C7, then GT350R, and now M3 CS.
The engine dynamics to C7 are closer than I would have imagined, a lot of midrange torque not too much top end. C7 sounds way better outside, but I was always disappointed with how it sounded on the inside and the S55 sounds more interesting inside. Ownership for mods and maintenance is WAY more with the BMW. I also vastly preferred the Chevy dealerships to BMW. Depending on where you live I would look for an independent service mechanic rather than go to the stealership. Gas mileage not too different. Both are around 20-22 mpg for me with better city mileage on the m3 and better highway in the corvette. Performance goes to corvette, with same tires it should walk the m3 around a road course. Both have e-lsd so drive similarly powering out of corner. Comfort goes to M3/M4, HUGE reduction in road noise. I will emphasize again that there is a huge running cost difference. And oil change for my c7 was like $30 dollars at the dealerhip? For an m3 it’s $2-300 Last edited by kaiserkannon; 10-24-2023 at 08:35 PM.. |

I came from a C7. When I threw a loud Billy Boat + Corsa Extreme X pipe setup it really awakened the car. I'll miss the C7 when it comes to sound, performance, open air feeling, and fun factor. It had speaker rattles upon purchasing new, interior wear after only 10k miles, and some suspension noises. The car didn't feel like it would hold up very well long term.
The M4 on contrary is more comfortable, back seats (I put my infant/toddler son in the back), has less bodyroll, better speaker system, etc. The M4 is a better all around car but doesn't excite me as much as the C7 to drive but seems more durable so I'll be keeping the M4 for a longggg time.
