Car jerks forward during stopping?
Ok, I notice this happened to me ~6 times now. When the car slows down and I step on the brake, right before it stops completely, the car jerks forward momentarily as if the gas pedal is pressed.
Anyone experience this and what it is? (I have a steptronic if it matters) |

So you have brake and gas at the same time???
I am sure if are at a stop with one foot on brake and slowly increase gas, eventually the car will break lose of the brake's hold and lurch forward.

Are you manually shifting to 1st gear? (using the steptronic) It's possible that's automatically blipping the throttle and causing a slight forward surge???

If it is just moves an inch or two than it may be the soft stop brake system. It lets the brake pressure off just before dead stop to reduce the jerk back of the car as it comes to a complete stop.

This could be it. But is it that noticeable? PS: I feel the car is like a wild horse...even if i step on the gas a little bit at a light stop, the car jumps (my wife was asking me why I floored it the other night and I said I didn't!) |

I experience the same thing. I am convinced it's the hill holder feature. Mine does it in reverse every time.
Feel like the car is stuck and then suddenly releases. I thought the car was broken...whew! |

Are you releasing the break prematurely as you would in a car without the soft stop feature? The car is designed to 'soft stop', so there is no need to compensate like a regular car would. I guess this could cause a minor 'jump' forward

Also, if anyone is noticing this with a manual, did they have their CDV removed?

I also remember reading somewhere that this transmission is not like other autos where one can lift off the brake and then start rolling.
As I recall this goes into a full neutral like condition until power is applied again. Wonder if that may be what we are experiencing. Perhaps some E90 3-series owners could shed some light one this. |

I find that the engine+transmission is quite aggressive in it's roll forward torque at idle. Aggressive to the extent that I find I have to keep slightly more pressure on the brake to keep the 135i from moving forward than I do with my wife's Honda Odyssey, for example. EDIT: this might also be a function of brake force modulation, as well. |

Good point, let me try this out next time without releasing the brake to compensate.

Another thing could be drive by wire. My civic gets confused once in a blue moon and would suddenly lurch forward.
