135i has cornering lights and I missed it.

I was behind a white van in a left turn lane when I was admiring the angel eyes. I then noticed my left inner light was on...and then it faded off.

!@#$? ...WHAT was that?

When your lights are in Auto mode (A click to the left) the inner most light on your headlight lights up when you turn into that direction. It's new to me since my 330ci had the yawing headlights, but not the cornering lights.

Noticed that a couple days ago. It caught me by surprise also. Pretty neat feature.

I'm wondering if that is just a reflection of the brighter corona rings, when looking at the car from a certain angle. I've noticed that it appears the lamp is lit. I am not sure it's the lamp that is actually lit though, and rather the corona rings reflect off of the optics in that light cluster. :iono:

After I noticed it, I turn the steering wheel and the light comes on.

I find the auto headlights way to gimmicky. They lag so far behind when turning that it is very disconcerting.

It's definitely lit. The inboard lamps are cornering lamps that come on when headlights are in Auto mode, and either the turn signal is on when the car is at rest, or the wheels are turned in that direction past a certain angle.

Turn the car on at night, set the headlights to Auto and turn the wheel to one side. Then get out and look. You'll see the inboard lamp on that side light up, aiming light towards the side.

We're talking about the inboard lamps, highlighted in the graphic in the first post. We are not talking about the outboard, main xenon headlamps.

Specifically, we're talking about the behavior of the inboard, cornering lamps when the headlights are in Auto (or Adaptive) mode.

Most people think about the swiveling, main lamps when talking about the Adaptive Healdights. We're talking about the fact that Adaptive Headlights also have inboard cornering lamps.

haha did a lotta searches to find out what the hell that light was..

I too found out that light was on one day while getting out of my car to close my garage door. I noticed an ugly yellow light in the driver side inner corona ..

I swear i learn something new and interesting about my car every day.

Now, to swap bulbs for something less yellow!

They also both go on when you put the car in reverse.

Sorry if this is dumb, but I can't be the only person thinking this when reading this thread.

I'm sure that you guys are talking about the active headlights (yes not the outside moving part). The inside light turn on when you turn the steering wheel, and thus move the active headlights (the outer ones). It is necessary for the inside ones to turn on so that it lights up the road straight ahead when your outside lights are pointing in the direction of the steering wheel.

Hopefully this helps, sorry if it is off topic.

All U.S. 1-series with the HIDs exhibit this behavior, no? I know the X5 accomplishes this with the fog lights, as do many other cars.

Maybe it's new for you that the MT cars when you stand still and shift from N to 1'st gear releasing the brake, car stays still for some seconds, meaning not rolling backward or forward if surface is not flat.

They also come on briefly when you're stopped and turn on your turn signal, to illuminate the path you'll be taking when you decide to turn the wheel.

Also, they only come on below a certain speed, and point further to the side than the HIDs can reach when turned.
