Average Time for ED?
Went to order a 135i today for delivery on 6/7. I'm going to be in Germany that week for business, so I figured I could pick the car up and do some sightseeing, plus save on airfare since I'd already be there on the company's dime.
So after my CA saying that it shouldn't be a problem, he went to speak to the manager, who came back and told me that they needed "at least 45 days" to build my car. I assume he meant business days, since from today they should have a good 50+. So anyway, what's the actual time you guys that did ED actually waited? Please indicate if this was the soonest date you could have had or not. |

My dealer indicated to me they wanted at least 90, but I think that was to be on the safe side and I was already way before that anyway.
On the form you fill out to request an ED vehicle, you have to select a box for your delivery timeframe - either less than or greater than 90 days, so it's clearly possible to order one under the 90 day mark, but I'm not sure by how much.

I ordered in January, with a March build.
The car was built on March 22, and delivered via ED on April 5th. If they can't get the car built soon enough, that would probably be the big problem!

I think that they could do it in the 45 calendar days if they have an allocation or can get an allocation from the month in which it needs to be built. So in this case they would need to get a May allocation.
From what I have heard at Bimmerfest, the order interval has significantly shorted since they moved to the Welt. I would place your order ASAP and make sure you are going through a dealer that does a lot of EDs. If they don't their lack of expereince could come back to bite you.

Well, it looks like I lucked out. My dealer said they "pulled some strings" (I'm guessing traded allocations) and should be able to get me a confirmation of my desired build date by the end of this week.
They didn't even balk at my sub-MSRP offer, and went out of their way to find me an allocation. :w00t: |

2 months should be good enough these days. It's better to have 3 months, since your car doesn't go into production right the way, so it gives you time to change your mind about options, colors, etc... I did 2 EDs so far, and I have always changed my mind about something within the first 30 days.
