Glad I didn't waste 1400 on leather.
"On the wear-and-tear side, we're seeing all of the typical stuff. The driver's sport seat, naturally, is starting to show just a bit of wear at the peak of the side bolster. This will only continue to break down, but the mere sight of it has already got certain of us changing our ingress/egress habits to preserve the leather. We'll see how long that holds up."

Never happened in years of ownership in my last 3 Bimmers. Of course I'm not a fat pig and know how to get in and out of a car without rubbing myself all over. I've seen worse in my buddy's Volvo, and he's a bit overweight... Leather can only handle so much abuse, but plastic seats are not an option for me in a premium brand. The smell alone is worth the price...

Saw that as well, while my car is equipped with pleather I had already altered my method of ingress/egress plus am now shopping for appropriate seat covers.

I've had my car (S60 AWD) for 6 years and the leather still doesn't look worn.

LOL I do tend to agree that it is a BIGGER problem for fat people. Sorry not trying to be rude its just a fact I learned from managing a detail shop. Their Leather was ALWAYS jacked up with in a year of them purchasing the car. They tend to slide in and out more than just sitting on the seat. However, I did go with leatherette just because my current car has leather. It also is wearing away, and trust me I TAKE CARE OF IT. I am VERY anal with my cars coming from a detail shop (years back). I also am not fat (5' 8" 185 very athletic (ha ha sounded like a personal add)) but it still looks like crap after about 4 years. Its 8 years and still looks like crap. I can only imagine if I didnt take care of it as much as I do.

The leather sport seats on my car are 4 years old and the driver's outside bolster still looks no more or less worn than the rest of the seating surfaces (hardly at all). It's got to be a user issue. I'm careful to get in/out of the car, usually by bracing my hand on the sturdy door-sill part when getting out.

Ya, I spoke with several current BMW owners before ordering mine and I was really surprised to hear them all tell me they prefer the leatherette and suggested I not get the leather cause apparently BMW's leather is notorious for not wearing well.
Of course I wished they offered a better selection of colors in the leatherette and perhaps the two-tone effects of some of the leathers. Oh well, black leatherette it is for me. |

The way I see it. Bmw are leased most of the time. A bunch of them dont care about the car. I had the worst leather ever in my old rsx-s. People on clubrsx used to complain about it. Mine never cracked PEOPLE don't understand that you have to maintain the leather the 10$ car wash wont do so. Meguires leather conditionner should do the trick(every week or at least once a month)
