Until very recently I drove an e36 M3, DINAN badged. Then I drove said e36 off a cliff, backwards. The 135 will be the replacement.. soon.....

I still have the M3 for now. The 135i is a fantastic car and seems like probably more fun and a better day-to-day car, though it is a slight downgrade, it is a worthy downgrade and with some very minor modifications, will outperform my M3 in every way. The 135i will be my new car, when I can get the deal I want on it.

Normally I wouldn't comment with an off-topic response when the OP is requesting specific information but.... damn!!! What the hell happened?!

I went from an E36 M to the 135i. I'd say the steering doesn't feel as direct, perhaps because of RFT's, suspension's a bit softer, and I can definitely feel the extra weight, but the engine feels very, very nice.
I'm getting avbout 4 mpg less in the 135i, for comparable driving, which is a bit more of a difference than I was hoping for.

If I had a choice today between a new E36 M and the 135i, I'd pick the M. No doubt about it.

Possibly the difference steering ratio contributes to the less direct feel? (E36 M3 is 13.7:1 vs. 135i is 16:1).

I did a quick comparison here

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6012

It's hard to make a direct comparison between the two (at least with mine) because the 135 is 13 years newer and it's clearly going to be quieter, smoother, etc... Because of that, the driver is definitely going to feel slightly isolated from the car in the 135 (as will be the case with most new cars) as compared to the E36 M3. With the M3, you know you are in direct connection with all the mechanicals, in the 135 you don't care! It's got so much more power, it pulls like stink from 1200 RPM (the M3 needs to be above 3000 - 3500 to really come alive) and it goes where you point it almost telepathically. So after you drive it for a while, you just don't care that you are a little more isolated from the car because it just does exactly what you ask it to do with total confidence.

The M3 is like a junkyard dog. Raw, a little rough around the edges and you know from the beginning what to expect. The 135 is Cujo. Sure, it looks all sweet and cuddly...until it eats the other cars whole...!!

I was teaching my GF to heal/toe and properly handle a stick (sorry, the innuendo is inevitable). The day prior was a company event at Infineon and my little M made a strong showing against the a couple of the bigwigs' benzes so I was overconfident and pushing it on the street ps2s. Came sideways around a blind bend to a big fat patch of sand from rainwater runoff. The front stayed on line, the back did not. Thank God for oak trees, because one stopped us about 25 feet down.

The car actually suffered more damage when the tow truck winched it back up the incline - the theory being that we flew over everything on the way down. Of course the insurance company gave me a fraction of the replacement cost.. particularly considering the immaculate condition I keep my cars in (and no compensation for factory limited edition paint). Oh well, that is business as usual I suppose.

Now I am officially a 1addict, even my homepage is oc.bmwusa.com (production COMPLETE as of yesterday!!)
