Unique Situation, Pricing Advice Sought
I bought a 2003 330ci (CPO) from Century BMW in 2006. Current mileage: 57,000. Since purchase, my car has spent way too much time in the service bay. The service department has become such a popular hangout for me that they have all become part of my immediate family.
The most recent disaster was a short in the final stage unit. The unit never shut down, overheated, and melted the top portion of the wiring harness. The first indication I knew something was wrong was the the AC fan was not working properly, then the fan did not shut off when I turned the car off, followed by the smell of something burning, like plastic. Within a short period of time, standing in the service lane at said dealership, the cabin of the vehicle filled with smoke. They disconnected the battery and wiring harness to stop the imminent danger of fire. Per BMW, this incident was an unfortunate and highly uncommon anomaly. They assured me the car is fully repaired, and that any and all threats of fire in the future are now null and void. Paranoid of not, I will never feel completely safe in this vehicle again, so negotiations and discussions ensued to get me the very best deal for a 135, an interest I had heretofore put on hold. Here is what they offered: 1. BMW service is paying me $1000 of good will money. 2. Selling price for a new 135i with sports package and leather (the only options I want) is $37000. 3. Other fees: Delivery fee $398.50; Acquisition fee $825.00. Per invoice I pulled off the BMW site this morning, the $37K is about $1705 over invoice. Thoughts? . . . . UPDATE after "3to1" input, which prompted my phone call to the sales manager: I asked her why invoice pricing had not been used as a baseline. It would be a whole different picture if I was just trading in my 330 for "sh*ts and grins". Right or wrong, I told her this was all being discussed on 1Addicts, a site she is familiar with. She told me the following: Her invoice price is $35435, which includes the $180 training service fee. The rest of the fees are as follows: 1. $36 (I forgot what this was for... Not a significant charge) 2. $115 floor mats (We all know we can get them cheaper than that, but OK) 3. $135 good will pack (They include that in all their new car sales. It covers when things go wrong that are not covered under warranty.) 4. $574 (This covers PDI, service, detailing, washing, and insurance to store the car on the lot after it arrives. This figure is 1.5% of the MSRP, which in this case is $38,275) 5. $500 sales commission. She also mentioned that she is giving a $15,000 trade-in value on my car, which is higher than current book listing, now hovering at $14-something. Also, with the service history on this car, she stated she was willing to inherit the problems, whereas other dealers would not be "so generous". Additionally, she has not required me to put any money down to hold this car coming in, nor gotten a steadfast/firm commitment from me, AND she went out to find me a modifiable 135, ... which she did and it just flipped to 150 status... meaning it will be here mid-August. OK, well all that is just wonderful fluff that does nothing to make me feel I have been given special consideration, given the lemon they sold me to begin with. And, ... BMW sticks to its resolve that no matter how many problems with a car, if it's under warranty, all they are required to do is fix it. She is going to discuss the $574 with her general manager.... *Sigh*

Assuming you are doing a metallic paint color, I get a MSRP for you of $38,825, with an invoice price of $35,755. You are getting an offer of $38,223.50, which is about $600 under MSRP and $2468 over invoice. I think you could probably do alittle better, unless that $1000 good will money is further taken off the purchase price??

Therefore your offer is about $1050 under MSRP and about $1968 over invoice. You probably could get it down alittle further based on what others have been getting lately. |

They should sell you the car AT invoice for what you have gone through. I would accept nothing less.

Has anyone ever had to contact BMW directly to resolve an issue, and if so, who?
