Notification sequence in Oz

Hi all,

As you may recall, I ordered my 135i in May, just before the release for a July build and a September delivery.

As it's now July, I am curious as to what others would have expected to be told by their dealer. I haven't heard squat with regards to production numbers, VIN, slots etc. I've had a letter, but that was just a 'Welcome, want to buy some stuff?' type thing.

I understand that I won't get a VIN until it's built and almost on the ship, but shouldn't I have heard a bit more by now?

So, what was your experience? I don't want to be a pain and be hassling my dealer, but would kinda like to know that it's being progressed and that I definately have a slot. I'm also a little nervous seeing some of the posts in the NA forums about 'stopping production for the summer' and no more orders of the '08 model there.

I have tried calling my sale assistant this week however, just got a phone message advising that the my sale assistant no longer works there. I'm waiting for a return phone call from the sales manager.

Basically your dealer should have a VIN number as soon as your car is completed. He/she will be able to access this on their computer. Once you have your VIN you can plug in into the shipping company site to track its journey to Aust. Be warned, it took a LONG time for my car to register on the shipping co. site after I got my VIN.

Has production stopped for summer yet? Will cars built from now on be 09 models?

I would find it hard to believe they would stop production for the summer. No production = no income.

I'm in the same boat.... placed order in the first week after launch with indicative July Build and aug/sep delivery... have sent a few e-mails to the consultants who ordered the vehicle for me and they have supposedly chased up the BMW SA who has reconfirmed July build date and delivery in Aug/sep but have not yet got any production dates or VIN... I hope they don't run late... surelythey wont stop production for summer! But if they do at least that means we would get the new idrive with the favourites buttons. Anyone with a July build got VIN details yet?

I'm a July build and emailed my sales guy for an update on Thurs. Was told, still not built as it will be late July. Also asked if he knew about any updates coming. Said not aware of anything but had heard of colour changes. Suggested they would be later in the year so there would only be a slim chance of updated cars arriving before year's end. He promised to keep me updated, but I also promised myself in my mind to bug him every two weeks until I have a VIN.... :wink:

Don't worry it will eventually show up. Mine took ages after I got my VIN.

It also prob depends on the dealers priority.

In the last few batches that were delivered there was a lot of inconsistencies between dealers, in regards to the speed their orders were processed.

Some of us had our vins within two weeks while others waited 4-6 weeks for their vins.

Just hound the stealers for your VIN..

I spoke to my dealer today and he finally gave me part of my VIN. Gave me the last 7 digits. I think I have worked out the rest of the VIN using the following sites

Ordered mine April 24
Arrived in country last Friday 11 July :thumbup:

I was told it would be a further 2-3 weeks until I could pick it up, but as I will be overseas until late August my dealer will be keeping it in cotton wool until I get back.

FWIW now, VIN still not showing on tracking site...
