Pre-winter oil spraying

The new car is coming very soon and so is the Canadian winter (a lot of salt is used on the roads I drive on). I am NOT going to do any of the spray or electronic rust-proofing but I am curious about the pre-winter OIL spraying that people do. Is this a good idea?!?

Also, if done, what order should it be done in...wash, wax, oil, then wait quite some time before washing again?

Thanks everyone...

Oil spraying? Never heard of it.

New cars usually have quite a bit of rust-free elements in the metals, I'm not too worried about the salt.

NO? Never heard of anyone getting their car oiled before winter?

It is sprayed underneath, in the doors, etc. and is usually done in warm weather before the temperatures really drop so that it can kinda spread around. Clearly it is to help prevent rust overtime - not sure if true or not - but the one drawback is it leaks out for the first few weeks and makes the car very dirty and difficult to clean.

Anyone doing this/have done it in the past on other vehicles???

I really wouldn't be worried about rust proofing a brand new car.

When I had my VW GTI it came with a 12 year warranty for the body not rusting. I'm sure BMW has something similar.

We're not driving Corollas from the mid 90s

I was gonna start a similar thread...

but my topic was about the undercoatings that the dealership offers. Has anyone done that to their vehicle ? Is it necessary?

if you are leasing, not worth it!

Cash purchase - not leasing

My bother-in-law is a mechanic (GM, not BMW) and says the spray on rust proofing (not the oiling that I'm asking about) is terrible and only hides rust, it doesn't actually prevent it. He said the electronic module is really just like purchasing a warranty that comes with it, "won't rust for blank years" or whatever it says. He doesn't believe it truely prevents rust though. Therefore, I am not purchasing either of these.

Still not sure about oiling!
