Break-In Time?

My manual says 1200 miles for break in time and I'm not supposed to depress the pedal to full throttle (or go pass 4800rpms). Its definitely hard not to at least full throttle the pedal. How important are these guidelines?

I picked up my car the other day and the "break in" period lasted about 3 minutes after I pulled out of the dealership. I know its probably bad and all, but the car is just so damn fun to drive.

BMW delivers these N54 TT engines complete 'idiote proof'. Break in period for the engine is nonsence. But make sure that the engine (I mean the oil) is warm enough before full throttle. Have fun!

A : will yield pages of opinion and even some educated suggestion. Prudence would suggest
to do as the manual states, don't get on it until 1,200 miles has been achieved @ below 4,500 RPM.

My dealer and the service guy insisted there was no need for a break-in period, so I got pretty spirited on the way home from the dealership after which I read the manual... ;\

This question has been asked dozens and dozens of times. Closing this in lieu of day-after-turkey-day-laziness.

As Surname suggests, please search.
