High pitch RPM dependent noise

Does anyone else have a high pitch noise that gets higher in hz(10000hz -14000 hz) when the RPM increases and above app 3000rpms.

The noise is really annoying when drive with anything about 3000 RPM.

Does it go away when you push in the clutch? The transmission makes a high pitched whine that sort of sounds like a supercharger. I've never tried to correlate it to an RPM range though.

DCT has a clutch. I know it's a different transmission but maybe it's the same sound? Try neutral?

Does it sound like a very very rapid ticking, kinda like valves ticking? Kinda almost like alternator whine from a badly grounded stereo system? I get it between 3-4k rpm. When I first bought the car and listened for every single friggin sound it bothered me. Now I forgot it's there. I have DCT also.

I have the same thing and never got an answer and BMW says nothing is wrong. It sounds like a bad ground loop problem in the stereo and I agree that it is very annoying.

If it's that jet sounding noise from about 4K to 5K RPM (and then drowned out by the roar of the engine), I love it, but it's not that loud (amplitute). The frequency is in the range you specify, but the amplitute or loudness makes it audible with radio off but never annoying.

People have been talking about the high pitch "supercharger" noise since the cars came out. In my car the noise goes away when I push in the clutch but I haven't paid much attention to it because it's "normal". There's also the ticking sound the car makes when not moving with the clutch out and the car in neutral. It's a noisy car, but the noises seem to be "normal".

Funny, I noticed the whine too when i first drove my car (just three weeks ago by the way...)

It is definitely a 'head-turner' when you drive down a quiet street--I kind of like it too. It's the sound just before the engine 'ROARS' to life and people duck for cover.

I known there is a clutch or two.... But the sound is there in neutral to.

My guess is that it is the drive belt that is vibrating, which to me implies that a tensioner is missing or not working as it should.

This kind of sound in a 140.000 CHF car is unbelievable to me, but it describes the build qaulity of the E90 pretty well.

Does anyone with a E92 or E93 have this sound?

I have driven E92 and that did not have this humming I am complaining about.
