What's my 128 worth?

For a variety of reasons, I'm thinking of selling my 128. I love the car to death, but it's not the most practical car for the maybe 20 blocks downtown I roam and I spend a lot of time obsessing about where I park it, who goes near it, etc. I'm actually considering a Mini, which is also more practical for my girl, who hates driving the 128 because I'm so crazy about it.

Anyway, it's seven months old '08, has 10.5K clicks on it, sparkling graphite coupe, Sport, Metallic Paint, Leatherette, 6 speed auto, Sunroof, Cashmere trim, USB.

I paid $48k all in, and I'm guessing it's worth somewhere around $30k at this point.

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/262486/1series02.jpg
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/262486/128ifront.jpg

It came with runflats with the pimped rims for summer,( this photo: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/262486/1series02.jpg ) and I bought a set of Michelin winters with rims off of Tirerack (about $1400) (this photo: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/262486/128i3.jpg ), and I'd include those.

All receipts, service records, etc etc. included.

Even if you're not interested in buying, I'm interested in what you guys think it's worth. There isn't much used product out there, my color has been discontinued, and the '08 models are getting scarce. Really hard to know its value.

Here's what I would do:
Go to one or more of BMW dealers in the area (there's a lot of 'em in the GTA) and get a wholesale quote. You know that they'll add at least $5K to that and stick a CPO label on it.
So you can probably sell it privately for a couple of $K above the wholesale quote.

Wow you paid $48k? Just ordered my 135i very similar options (but 6spd) and all in (not tax) and it came to $45k. Is it a vert?

I don't think I could take an $18k hit on a car...why not just keep it, the mini isn't much smaller (a smart would be). If your sharing it with your wife why not just try being a bit less 'crazy' LOL

Dude! Don't do it!

Taking a $18k hit on your 128 isn't worth it so soon. Imagine how many Bymark suppers you could've had for $18k!

Just try to be less crazy about the car & just enjoy it.

You guys aren't helping!

The car is hardly a city car. It's heavy off the front end, doesn't hit its power stride until well into acceleration, and reserves most of its pleasures for highway driving, which I do very little of.

I find that I devote a lot of psychic energy to the car, which irritates me. The solution may be just to get a beater (or a Mini) for city runs. Most of my driving is within a small area of east downtown, and the car's been a headache as much as a blessing since I got it. It's nothing against the car, and more about city life.

It's seriously 50/50 for me: I love the car, but it's not exactly practical for my lifestyle, and more fantasy than reality. That's just me. I've also begun to have a fair bit of guilt about the amount of gas I guzzle. The car's not terrible on gas, but it ain't exactly good either.

Anyway, I appreciate your thoughts, especially VFX's, lol, but I am actually curious what my resale might be. Haven't made a decision, just curious.

I think we are helping by talking some sence into you!

If you really want to sell it I would start asking at $34k and see if you get any offers...I think you're bat shit insane if you do though...loosing at least $12k in 7 months is crazy.

Hey I don't want to lose anymore than I have to, that's why I'm asking. And I do appreciate the intervention.

We're talking 48k with taxes, and 30k plus taxes right. If you buy another car you can get some of that money back. Still that's a lot of money if I were you I'd keep the car for like 2 or 3 years and then sell it.

Check the black book value online and substract a few thousand to get an idea of what dealers will offer you. We're so upside down on new car purchases (not just Bmw) it's ridiculous.

You can't do that bro! If anything, enjoy the car for a minimum of at least a 2 year time period! THEN make the switch. Yes the car isn't the most fuel efficient but it's a joy ride car and that's why you have it. The specs that you listed makes the car almost fully loaded...... don't part with it so soon

I kinda know how you feel.

I have an SUV & I'm finding it hard to justify the running costs but as it's less than a year old, if I sell it now, I'm probably looking at a $30+k drop!

It's hard to swallow!

Your 1er will probably fetch somewhere around $34-35k if you sell privately & somewhere around $30-32k if you shop it around the dealers.

I paid $37k (plus taxes) for my 1er brand new, but the only options were steptronic, metallic paint, USB & sunroof. I'd expect around $27k for mine if I traded it right now.

If you keep the 1er, I'll buy you dinner next time you're in Vancouver!

Yea, I'd probably sell it if I got $34k. Even with the extra goodies I'm throwing in. But maybe I'll reconsider.

$34k wouldn't be too bad right now. But still, $14k drop? That's half a MINI right there.

If your car wasn't auto, I'd probably pick it up for $34k! That's an amazing price (for the buyer).
