Question Noticed something interesting today 135i vs 335i

I noticed something interesting today.

Quick background... I have a White 2008 135i Auto that I got this February. Car is totally stock except for SSTT, with approx 4500 miles on it.-- My mother has a White 2008 335i Sedan Auto with approx 6500 miles on it. It is also stock except for the SSTT.

This was the first time I drove the 335i since it's had the SSTT put in.

I noticed 2 interesting things:

1. The 335i in Sport/Manual mode will shift at 7k RPMs when 'redlined'. My 135i seems to shift at 6500-6800 when 'redlined'. Weird.

2. In the Sport/Manual mode, my 135i will shift faster in sport mode rather than in the regular drive mode. (This is what it should be) In the 335i, whether in regular drive, sport, or sport/manual, the car still shifts at the same slow speed. (I though the trannys were identical- gear ratios are the same and redline should be 7k)

Anyone have any ideas for each of these issues or noticed something similar.

FYI, in case anyone is wondering, the 135i pulls on the 335i from 40-130 by about 1.5 cars, and both cars only have the SSTT.

might be a software issue. Even within the same model year, the software versions can be different. Plus dealers will install software updates when the car is brought in for service. I would expect both cars trannies to perform the same if they are on the same engine and transmission software.

likely shifting at the same point one tach just doesn't keep up or bounces up faster than the other. As for shifting....hmmm....could be software....or maybe is as it should be from BMW...there should be some diff. between manual, auto, and sport mode though. Is it the coupe or sedan? (the 335 obviously)

yeah... i guess it could be the software versions doing it.. or like someone said, they're both shifting at the same rpm, just on the 335i the tach is bouncing. the 335i is a sedan (whoever asked)

and my mother also races our 525whp 93' rx7... and does crazy burnout in my pops 2007 M Roadster... if she had it her way, she'd have the jb3 or procede, but the car is a lease...

im going to take the sstt off both cars and see what happens.. and then check the sw versions when they're in to bmw for service.. we'll see....

reason I asked was maybe BMW made the shift points on the sedan "cushier" in all modes so maybe you just can't tell it is shifting slightly faster.....dunno

only other thing it could be (besides the software or a problem) would be bad fluid....you could try having the tranny flushed and better high performance fluid put in...this always helped the shift speed in the autos that the wifey and brother have owned in the past. But 6500 miles isn't much so unless it is contaminated or got roasted somehow the fluid should be fine. Might be worth a shot though if the slow shift is bothering you.
