First Oil Change.... What is SCOPE CHECK?

So I took my 135 in today and had my first oil change. In the comments section on the paperwork, I see....

VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AFTERMARKET AIR INTAKE SYSTEM.

One of the line items above this comment is...

02BMZSCOPE SCOPE CHECK
PERFORM STANDARD SCOPE CHECK PER CBS INFORMATION
PERFORMED PER CBS INFORMATION
COMPLETED

So does anyone know what CBS INFORMATION is and if this is common to all oil changes or was this something they did because they were curious after seeing my intake.

I believe scope check is another term for performing a diagnostics scan. Don't quote me on this though

in any case, why didnt you just remove your intake before servicing the car?

Why would you remove an intake for a regular oil change service? Are you afraid they would deny the oil change service because your intake would cause the oil filter clogged up? Come on guys, please do not let the dealer drive us around. We need to let BMW knows, we are their customers. They are bound to serve us not the other way around. Customers is always right, right?

My SA is cool and I asked him about the intake before I bought or installed it. He said it was no big deal and I have had a few items taken care of since I had it installed. I had a leaking injector and now an oil change. This is just the first time I noticed it on the paperwork.

Well, lesson learned: he isn't that cool.

This is cool, glad to hear some good BMW dealers out there. If they are truely car enthusiast like us, they should enjoy working on our cars and admire the mods. If we have more fun moding our cars, we will tell and encourage other enthusiasts to buy BMW. This will be a win-win situation for both.

Cheers.

They may admire the mods as they reject your Warranty repair. THey are starting to really crack down, all Manufactures are. Mercedes, Porsche, and Chevy...they used to look the other way many times on the Vette. No more. You mod it, expect a fight if it is related....

Because unfortunately, some dealers aren't as cool about modding as others. And thats simply reality. You can try to make them serve you as you wish, that never means they will. If a dealer wants to get on ur nerves or on ur ass for modding your car, they will. Is it always fair? WELL, not really, but that's the way it goes. Yes we are BMW customers. We buy their cars, and we love them too, but if we intend to mod them, we're gonna have to deal with the consequences.

That actually kind of SUCKS. Since they put AfterMarket Intake on that paper work I can almost gaurntee its in the system now. So even if you do take it off, they will know it was on there/you just took it off for service. It almost happened with my Jeep Wrangerl back in the day. I had a KN intake on it...well the intake pipe rubbed against the AC line causing a leak. That AC line ALONE was 300 bucks with out labor. LUCKILY, I had a REALLY cool SA. He said he DID NOT put it in the system that I had an Intake..If I had the original intake (which I did) put it back on and take it to another dealer, because since they knew what caused it they couldnt work on it. Long story short, put the old one on...went to another dealership...it got fixed.

Sounds like they scoped the dipstick (if we had one) tube and looked into the sump.

But then again they could have scoped anywhere.

I agreed, if the mods causing problem, I will pay for the repair and I won't lie about it; but if they deny my HPFP failure, I will definitely challenge them on this.

I have seen scope check plenty of times when I brought my stock 330i in for an oil change. It is just a standard diagnostic they run.

Tomorrow is my big day. I pulled the JB3 just to send the 1.22 back to terry for an update. The car is going in for it's first oil change and state inspection... I haven't driven the car in stock form for months. I am going to see if anything pops up and will report back my service report. I opted to hang around and meet the tech just to BS. So we'll see how it goes.
