Your Insurance Coverage

I need to get insurance and I was wondering which companies you all use...I tried progressive and the best quote I could get was $171 a month. So how did everyone else fair?

What Company do you have your 135i insurance with?

What Rate did you get (and type of coverage)?

Did your rates get reduced because of BMW Assist?

What state are you in?

Anyone here 25 yr old or under? If so what rate could you get?

GEICO quoted me about $145 per month for my 135i.

Here's the coverage:
  • Bodily Injury Liability
  • Property Damage Liability
  • Personal Injury Protection-Insured
  • Uninsured Motorist
  • Comprehensive
  • Collision
  • Emergency Road Service
  • Rental Reimbursement
  • $500 deductible

I live in Florida and I'm 24. I'm hoping that when I turn 25 the rate will go down.

Why did you get Emergency Road Service if you have BMW assist?

Good question. Basically I have emergency road side assistance with my current car. When GEICO quoted me for the 135i, they kept the same coverage. But when I actually get my 135i, I'll ask them to remove the road side assistance since it's redundant. But it won't make much of a difference in the monthly rate, maybe $1-$2 less a month. They also didn't quote me with BMW Assist in mind. I've read that it may lower the insurance rate, but I don't think it will make a very big difference.

If you can possibly get USAA (former military, or former dependent of former military), then they are the best, period!

After them, try Metropolitan, they always beat everyone else. I had them for about 6 years until USAA blew them away. But going on Insurance.com for quotes from all the companies, Metropolitan beat them all.

State Farm here...$2300 a year, which breaks down to...$191 a month. Not bad. I'm under 25. Off the top of my head, I think I have $250 deductibles with Comprehensive, Collision, Property Damage, Personal Injury, and a few other things.

Progressive quoted me almost double what Geico did.

I've been with them since I got the 135i, and pay about $1k/year.

$2300/year is high. Why do you carry such low deductibles? Have you asked to see what a higher deductible will do to your cost?

I just switched over to Geico a few minutes ago. $74/mo for the 135i and I have 3 other cars on the policy.

I *hate* their commercials but love the rates.

I had progressive but will cancel that policy in a few days. I'm 38.

Hehe.. you young guys need to slow down for the lower rates!

Speaking of that, I thought it was funny Geico offers mechanical breakdown coverage.. but only on very new cars. Why would you ever need that for a new car?

Well, see, I'm under 21. Despite the fact that I've never had a ticket or made a claim, I'll be rate-raped for a couple more years.

I have the same problem, my daughter is under 21, no accidents, no tickets, she drives better than any 40+ lady and I have to pay over $900 for very old car just liability. I can't imagine include her for 1 ser, it will cost more than my lease payments. Insurance company is really rappers supported by government. Why, because government doesn’t control insurance rates, however requires to have insurance.

Not quite. It's called the Department of Insurance. And in California for instance, as an insurer you might approach the California DOI with a rate increase request and they might just come back with a mandated decrease. I wouldn't exactly call that collusion.

You should still contact your insurance company or agent and ask about what the effect would be to your rates to take your comprehensive and collision deductibles up to $500 or $1000. When you share in the risk more, your rates go down.

if you're in the military or of a military family, than USAA is the only way to go.

I think my quote from USAA was like $162/mo (for two cars). I'm 29 and have two claims in the last 3 years (hit a deer and stolen headlights).

Absolutely correct. I have had USAA for longer then most of you were born. We pay about $580 a year ($290 every 6 months) for the 135. If you are Military, get it. If not, Amica is right behind USAA, then State Farm, Progressive, Geico and Allstate.

You insurance premiun is based on your age, history and loss experience, rating territory, and credit score. Only way to lower it is to be over 30, married, and live in Nebraska with no teen drivers. !

Why would you possibly prefer a low deductible? The money you would save on the yearly cost would cover the difference in any deductible payments you may never use.

GEICO's MBI isn't a roadside assistance program. MBI covers REPAIRS as well as towing.

I disagree. I branched off my Dad's policy (we started it in 1984 when we PCSd back to the States) so that MAY have had something to do with it, but GEICO was less expensive for the same coverage than USAA and my wife and I are both Active Duty.
