Clearing codes does not actually clear them

Cleared all my codes before going into the dealership and they were able to pull all codes since I bought the car.....

Be carefull.....

He never mentioned if he used a BT scanner or a generic one.

He needs to clarify.

I remember BMS got their hands on a some computer that the dealership uses to scan our car and confirmed that the BT scanner will clear all the codes.

How about a little more info.

What codes are you talking about, and what kind of device did you use to clear them?

I know how to use it and when I retested it no codes were found but, the dealer could see them.....

It cost me $120 bucks for them to scan because they found all my o2 faults from my cattless downpipes....

BT stands for Bavarian Technic and is not made by Auto whoever.

This is the link to their site. http://www.bavariantechnic.com/

The auto enginuity scanner appears to be an OBDII scanner level and does not eliminate shadow codes stored deeper in the ECU like the BT software does. OBD2 was created for emissions-related problems and only covers a limited subset of your car's engine

I think you are confusing terms?

Those could have presented themselves after you cleared them if they are a recurring condition.

Ding! Sounds like a generic scan tool to me. The BT is specific for BMW/Mini.

Its funny we talk about clearing codes but all the dealer has to do is read these forums do a little detective work and the game is up.

The scanner you used isn't model specific, and doesn't get to all the codes. It still should have cleared the O2 codes though. Those are standard OBDII stuff.
I'm assuming you used this:
http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-scantoolpc.html

Here's the Bavarian Technics tool we're talking about. It's not the same thing you used. It's got specific software for BMW.

You've said it... OP had me worried for a min there as I'm taking my car in for service tomorrow and I've used my scanner to clear a tuner code before (from JB1.1).

Just FYI.... The codes were cleared when I used my scan tool. and they were not reoccurring. When I dropped it off there were no codes showing. I don't know about the shadow codes but they were able to tell me all codes that my car had ever thrown.... They had alist from day one...

All I am saying is be carefull.......
