New Tires = Slow initial go (135i with JB+ at %100)
I had 15k miles on my stock RFT's and they were nearly slicks when got rid of them. And I got JB+ towards the end and intial pick-up was awesome. I just got Toyo TR1's. I love the ride quality, lack of noise, handling etc., but I notice that 0-10mph is slower now than before, and I was wondering if this could be due to the extra grip in the new tires? Or something new is wrong with JB+. Anyone with a similar experience?

lets be a little serious here for a second.. he gave no inclination as to WHY he thinks the 0-10 is slower and provides no proof supporting his claim. with all due respect to the OP it's probably just in his head.

I don't think theres anything wrong with your JB+. New tires just have more grip and less loss of traction. Therefore your engine has a harder time getting them to initially move. But to be honest, its mostly in ur head

lets ask the obvious question... are the new tires broken in? Usually have grease/oil/lube/whatever from the molds. Remember, slipping tires results in traction control kicking in, which results in ignition timing cut out.

you could also be spinning the wheels inside of the tires if you didn't take it easy for a while after first getting the new tires put on. If so, it'd have thrown off your balance.

Driving this car for two years and beamers for ten (e39 M5, 330i) and I think I know when my car drives differently. If you can't tell by your butt dyno then you don't know your car. I think the extra grip\friction from the new tires actually slowed the car down initially for a day or two... but it's back to normal now. Also I went with a size larger, although they are 4lbs lighter, but the wider surface and newness is probably the reason for the initial slowness.

WTF are you smoking?! First of all, there's NO WAY you've been driving this car for two years. Second, extra grip makes a car FASTER, not slower. The only real possibility here is that the new tires weren't broken in and the traction control was kicking in, but there's a very obvious indication on the dash when that happens that you should have noticed. |
