Front Bumper Drilled with Performance Delivery?

Just put the down payment on a new 135i Coupe with Performance delivery. As always, a big thanks to all the 1addicts, spending the last few months reading all the posts helped me from getting the price I wanted to selecting options/color and most importantly deciding on Performance Delivery. In my excitement during the signing of the paperwork (10 minutes before closing) I forgot to ask whether or not holes are drilled in the front bumper for a license plate at the Performance Center. Illinois requires front plates, but I do not want to drill the bumper, plan to use tow hook attachment recommended on forum (as needed). Scoured the forum but no one has asked this topic (just ED).

Does anyone know?

I will ask my CA tomorrow as he needs to get me a production date, but I find many 1addicts are more knowledgeable than most CAs.

Can't wait for my 135

My PCD is not until July 21 so I am not completely sure but if your CA sends your plates to the Performance Center, which is the normal path unless they run out of time in which case they would give them to you, I think they will install them for you which would mean drilling the front. In SC, where I am, we use no front plates so even after I get my delivery I may or may not know. You may want to consider bringing your plates and putting them on yourself as well as making a specific request that they not drill the front. You may also want to check out the PCD forum on Bimmerfest. One of the guys that works at the PC monitors that forum and is good in responding quickly to questions.

I think JimD has it right. Also, from my experience at the PC, the indication was that they would not install the front plate bracket unless specifically requested but your best bet is to contact them to make sure your desires are known. They are very accommodating whenever possible.

I had my CA make a note on the paperwork for the performance center to not drill the front bumper. He also know that if there were any holes, he would have owed me a new bumper.

CA said that they only drill the bumper if the car is being registered in a state that requires front plates, mine did not.

So I would be adamant about noting on the paper work to not drill the bumper if I were you.

I asked the lady at the Performace Center if they ever drill holes for plates and she said "never."

You're in the clear. It's your dealer's obligation, not BMWs.

My Z3 Coupe had the holes drilled.

My 1 did not.

Both were PCD cars.

Hey. I picked up my 128i at the PDC and the guy asked me if I wanted him to drill holes or not. Since Ohio is a pussy state and requires a front plate I just said fuck it and had the guy drill the holes. I don't think it looks too bad with a front plate and I don't want to get caught driving 'illegal' and pay the $60-$100 fine.

Anyway, when I got the car no holes were drilled...the plate mount was sitting in the trunk and I was given the option to have them drilled on-site.

Thanks for all the feedback. My CA said that they do not drill unless specfically asked, and if I wanted I could bring the car to the dealership for drilling the front bumper(basically what most people posted here). I think I will still remind them everytime I talk to someone at the dealership (only put down a deposit so far) as suggested by Addict...Nah I'm a Junkie (including setting the date for the PCD). Luckily this brought up the conversation about floor mats being at dealer or PC and eventually he said that they were extra, had to haggle on the phone to make sure I got them included for free

Still have not got a production slot/date (currently pending) despite being assured it would be taken care of today (CA says should know tomorrow or Monday)...wtf?!

Hind, to answer your question, jawohl! I keep replaying the videos from the forum, it looks like a lot of fun.

Put it in writing on the invoice.

I had them put it in writing, signed the required waiver, and it still came with holes. Thanks to having it in writing the car went to the body shop instead of me having to take the dealerships first offer: little plastic plugs.

If you are taking delivery of your car at the BMW Performance Center in South Carolina you do not have to worry about holes being drilled in your bumper.
You have to request (in person) that you want them to install the front license plate holder. They will then call a technician to install it while you watch.
I work there and can attest to the fact that this is the way it has been for the last 3 years.
It would be nice if there were a Performance Center Delivery / specific topics/ forum on 1addicts. I know the one on Bimmerfest answers many questions.
