Color Question

Hi everyone! I'm thinking about getting a 135i coupe hopefully this year, but I was wondering if the Sparkling Graphite is available in the United States? I noticed the color on the forum but on the bmw website the color isn't available. I also contacted my dealer & he said it isn't available this year, but maybe in the 2010...could someone help?

Thank you!

We dont know yet...but who knows they could bring it back...but isnt Space Grey or Cashmere (cant remember) very similar?

Also you CAN get Sparkling Graphite on any car but it costs $5000+ for non-production colors...but hey if you have money to spend do it

No maybe you didnt understand my post...if they DONT offer a color for your car, you can get it custom for around $5000

Therefore in 2010 if they dont offer Sparkling Graphite on 135i you can still get it for extra $$$$

Not exactly true. The 1 series does not offer this option. Even if it did, there are restrictions - the factory has to have that paint available when your car is being assembled. If you really really want SGM and Space Grey won't do - I'd look for a 2008.

Any color BMW has produced is still available in their system as a "BMW Individual Color" option but of course is very pricey

He understood. He is saying that he wouldn't spend the $5K for a custom Sparkling Graphite over the available Space Grey Metallic.

To the OP: Graphite was only available on the 1 in the US for the 2008 model year. I find it unlikely that it will be brought back for the 2010 model year when it was effectively replaced by the somewhat lighter colored Space Grey Metallic. All that said, it's a shame, because my SGM car is gorgeous when clean and only slightly less so when dirty.

Can anyone confirm that you can get SGM if you manage to find a CA with the pull to get Individual paint in the states?

I ask because they discontinued SGM paint due to EU cap and trade implementation. The manufacture of the purple tint in the paint released too much pollution to be profitable.

The BMW Individual Program (custom color) option is not available for the 1-series. Someone on this forum investigated this very thourougly with BMW USA very recently. He wanted to get Dakkar Yellow and was told there was no way to order this color on a 1 Series. Sorry to disappoint, but SGM is likely gone forever.

So they will do it on a 3 series but not a 1, bastards!

I have space grey and love it. Its a really unique color, especially in person. Its not silver, but its not "charcoal" I get comments on the color all the time.

I prefer the space gray. The SGM was a bit too dark for my taste in dark gray.
The space gray reminds me of my A4's "quartz gray", but the SG is one shade darker. It's very nice, and adds a touch of elegance to the sporty coupe. No one has said, "that color sucks.", or "you should have got ....", except for my 19yr old niece who thought my original desire to get red was a better choice, but she too likes the SG with coral interior.

You cannot get SGM on any car even with the Individual program because of this:

Bericht von Lügen - 8-Juli-2008

The purple tint contained in the BMW car color Sparkling Graphite Metallic (SGM), was found to be emitting over 143ppb of Zethane into the atmosphere during the curing process. This was destroying the stratomeglus layer, exposing the German people to excessive levels of UVB rays.

I don't think they'll do it on either! The environmentalists are hard on BMWs tail and from what I have heard that paint is permanently discontinued (unless they can apply it in some facilities outside of Germany I suppose...) Heck, maybe you can get it on a US-built X6! LOL
