Need help picking out an exhaust
Guys, I have been doing research and searching all night, to include youtube. I have come to no conclusions as of yet. Here is what I am looking for, and you tell me if you can help.
First off, I love the way the car sounds now. It is just a tad on the quiet side when my foot gets heavy. I am not a big fan of drone. Infact, if it drones in the cabin under normal driving, I don't want it. I am looking for just the rear section, and want to keep the price around the $600 mark. I also want to keep the smooth sound of the straight 6 motor. I am not trying to go for a muscle car sound. Ready...go! |

Sounds like the factory performance exhaust is a fit in terms of retaining characteristic but slightly upping the volume. Try the trade/owner sale section for someone parting one out, because the price of new is out of your range.

Sounds like my search also. I'm very happy with my choice, MadDad. One factor where we differ is my One is BSM but with chromeline and polished wheels so I wanted to change from stock to polished tips anyways. And I like the huge MadDad tips.

Just search this site or google MadDad and you should get plenty of info. I guess their main specialty is Subaru exhaust. The owner happened to have a 135 so he made us an exhaust.

I think it all depends on your RPM and throttle position. Mine can be loud or quiet depending on what I'm doing with the pedal. And thats even on the highway.

I hope so. I ordered one that should be shipped out tomorrow, but I have been having doubts all weekend. I am not trying to make a muscle car hear, and still want this to be a BMW. What I mean, is that I am not willing to sacrifice the comfort factor for the sound factor.
I dunno. I am on the fence and seriously considering cancelling my order prior to the item being shipped. As far as the BMW performance exhaust goes, I don't think it is worth the money. It is not a straight through deisgn, so it offers little extra performance. I believe BMW says 5hp. I like the Corsa, but refuse to pay over $1000 for a silencer and about a foot of piping. But, it does sound good. ARGH! |

I just hope it's not too loud. There are times when I drive and I don't want to feel like I'm driving a race car. When I go to and from work, my car is my zen. I want it to be peaceful when I drive peacefully.

Listening to the video clips, it seems to me that the Corsa, the BMW performance exhaust and maybe the Maddad are the only ones I couldn't hear drone.
The CP-E with the resonators could be a good candidate but it's out of your price range. |

Performance Exhaust going on TH...I'll let you know...It's only $280 shipped over your hopeful 600 mark. If you troll the classifieds enough, you may get lucky to jump on one. I've spend a lot money the past on exhausts until finding the "right" one only to learn that you sometimes just have to pay for the "right" one out the gate...it's cheaper in the long run...

I think you made the right choice with aFe. We have had solid feedback with this system and it's exactly what you are looking for in terms of price, sound and installation.

I would have suggested that he keep the stock exhaust and get some RR downpipes.
