You know what's nice?

I've been reading through other car forums and though there are more than a few people who don't like the look of the 1, there is plenty of respect out there for the 135i, especially among the more technically knowledgeable.

I've noticed that I get way more thumbs up, head turns, approving nods, etc from people in Evo's, STI's, older cars like Integras, etc than I do from other BMW drivers. It might be because my car's lightly modded, but they seem to respect you knowing that a 135i, and even the 128i (though I can't speak for that), isn't just a car you buy for the badge. The other day I was at a stoplight when a group of young hoodlum types in an old pontiac with chrome wheels pulled up to me and rolled down their windows. Fearing the worst, I rolled mine down only to be greeted with "sweet car man!" All I ever get from 3er drivers is dirty looks and attempts to race...

I think "technically knowledgeable" are the key words there. People who know cars are less likely to judge on "face value." Just like I can respect a Mitsubishi Evo, and admit it's faster around a track, even though personally it's a car I cannot stand.

Actually the only people that "look down" on my 135 are 3 series owners.

I wouldn't say that as a generality. Point-in-fact the shop foreman at my dealer just traded his 335i in for a 135i. Of course this might go along with a point in the OP about technical know-how.

I would go one step further and say 3 series owners who wish they had a 1 series. If I had known about the 135i I would have waited a year instead of buying the 335i in2007. I kept it only 2 years, but got a good deal and did not lose as much as I thought I was going to. The 135i is worth it!

The problem with M3 owners is that while you definitely have some good drivers in there you also have the ultimate badge whores. I suppose the good thing is that they reveal themselves as soon as they open their mouths.

On the other hand, I like the appreciation and respect usually given in the Audi, VW forums.

It also makes you wonder if half the modded cars out there are owned by enthusiasts or only because its trendy and in-style...ala fast and the furious generation.

In all fairness, if the poster had put the same thing up here, there would have been just as many M3 haters. To each his own.

What part of a generality don't you understand? Citing one post - or a few others - from a car forum does not constitute such. The BMW community extends way beyond these forums my friend.

You mean the quick and the clueless? I suspect that, this being the internet, 3/4 of the people dissing cars have no actual experience with those cars.

You think it's really that small of a percentage?
