My first ding after 3 weeks!
Hi folks,
I just did the dumbest thing today - I am the first to have dinged my 3 week old car! All the careful parking out of the crowd, etc... I am the first to do it, and so soon!!!! It's at the rear wheel arc (fender) on the driver's side, right across the crease too. Did a quick search, and read a fellow forum member didn't have luck with the regular dent repair because of it's location (can't reach behind it under the wheel well). Another thing I don't want is a respray for paint, because the car is still so new - the new car smell will become paint fume inside the car! I will take a photo tomorrow, any thoughts or suggestions of places to go, highly appreciated. I'm located in Los Angeles. I know cars will be dinged sooner or later, especially in LA, and worst thing could've happened, but I'm really bummed out it happened so soon, I have to fix it. Thanks in advance. I had one on my 328 right around the crease and a bit forward of the wheel well. I had dent wizard look at it and they wanted to drill through the inside of my door. Under where it latches and put a seal around it and said it would look factory. I pulled out the speakers, just as if a diy for speaker replacement and had instant access. $80 cash and perfect. If it's further back, access from the trunk, like on amp replacement should give instant access to that area. You might have to remove some other stuff while you are in there but it should not be that difficult.

Thanks all for the consolation! Sorry to hear about those who beat me to it!
Been crazy at work today, here's the photos. Guess doesn't look as bad i the photo, or not the worst of dings, but the location really worries me. I got a referral from Eric from Eclipse Motors, will call tomorrow. Will try to get estimate from 2 other companies who do mobile PDR work in Los Angeles. Yes, def bugging the hell out of me!!!! |

Spoke to 2 PDR people, both said it's at the edge (crease) of the body, and at that area is a double body panel area. Can't access from behind. Either have to try the glue tack method, but said highly unlikely to work well, or drill 3/8" hole in the passenger's door jam, and then cover it back with those pplastic tabs. YIKES!!!!
Or, fix the damage on the left quarter panel and repaint, and paint the passenger door to blend color. I mentioned about removing the interior speakers, but one said if it's a coupe with a bigger quarter panel it will work, but since I have the sedan there's not much room there. I do not want to lose my factory paint, and have a new car that smells like paint fume! All for this stupid ding!!!! Still await a couple other PDR people, hope I'll have better luck there. |

Dentless repair doesn't work on creases AFAIK, so I wouldn't even consider it. Based on your 'evidence', I'd reluctantly leave it alone. Keep us posted.

Regarding the "death in the family" comment........yes there was....my wife's father passed away and that's why the sister-in-law was in town and the only reason I am letting her get away with it.....

Totally sucks. I bought ding repair up front at the dealer as my experience w/ dings (truck dings - grrrr) has been so bad in TX,
Maybe contact your dealer for advice / repair reference?

I think he meant a more recent death and probably to the Sister-in-Law. Cement boots may be in order here. Unless she is really hot

I found a scratch last week on my 2 month old E92. Someone somewhere was nice enough to run something down my hood and leave a 6" scratch. The way the scratch is, there is no way it was from a road debris.

Hey,
Just a quick update. After talking to 4 or 5 PDR people, including through the dealerships and bodyshops in Los Angeles, finally found a guy who can do it! Found him through Marcos Auto Body. He's mobile, and came to me this morning. Amazing, professional job, paid lots of attention to the final details, the ding on the crease on the wheel arch (quarter panel) is now gone - looks as good as new! Also no need for drilled holes in the passenger door jams (that all the other PDR guys said is the only PDR solution, short of dismantling and re-painting)! Mark from Quality First Ding Removal only drill a 3/8" hole in the wheel well, behind the plastic panel! All plugged and sealed. Can't believe he managed to retain the curves and seam there! Now I know who to call when I have dings! Way better than a new paint job! Very happy customer, and very very very relief that I don't have to stare at the ding anymore! |
