Don't forget that radar detectors are illegal in NS! Big fines, confiscation, etc. My understanding is that the police have the ability to detect radar detectors in cars. If you are going to go that route anyway, I would suggest Beltronics... they make a radar detector that is not detectable. The next issue you have is how to "hide" it if a cop does pull you over (i.e. how do you get it off the window and away, how do you hide the power cord, etc).
If the cop asks if you have a radar detector (maybe because he saw the lights at night or because of an upbrupt reduction in speed), be VERY carefully denying it. I have heard rumours that people have faced criminal charges for that. Anyway, just saying that if you choose that route, pick a detector that is invisible to the police or you may have other problems!!

BUT, I do choose the opportunity to play a bit when it is safe to do so. Normally when I am alone on the highway with few, if any, other cars. Conditions are good (not raining, not too cold, etc). Also, I look for spots where I have good visibility to see any "traps" up ahead. When I come over the crest of a hill or around a corner, I also back off a bit just in case. I NEVER drive fast in residential or heavily populated areas (like the Bedford highway)! Have fun, everyone does (or they are lying if they say they don't), just be smart and safe. If you get the radar detector, I would love to see how you install it to hide the wires, etc.

Anyways, I have the Pasport 8500i. Although I've always heard and been told that the V1 is the best. I'm fairly happy with the simplicity, style, and performance of my 8500i, but I may go for something like the V1 later in the future. |

Bel STi is really good and has saved my butt many times... i'm not an "all-the-time, crazy" speeder, but 300+ miles of straight highways with a 60 mph speed limit get on my nerves easily... 80-90mph is more like my cruising speed WHEN TRAFFIC ALLOWS !
rain, snow, night time, i'm barely at the speed limit if i dont feel confortable... anyway, STi FTW (as they say on the Internet) |

The 9500ci is mostly invisible to the Spectre RDD (radar detector detector) and the Bel STi is definitely invisible. The V1, especially the newer versions, are definitely NOT invisible to it. The V1 has the advantage of the arrows though. Otherwise, all are good, top notch detectors. Hope this helps.
