Pitted headlights
So having dealt with the windscreen pits (replaced screen) and the hood chips (re-sprayed hood) I now need to finish things off by fixing the headlights which look just like the screen (scrached and pitted).
What's the best way (short of replacement) to fix these? Does polish work? E.G. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Plastic-Headla...74d274fe961541 Thanks for your help. |

Check out this kit, people seem to have pretty good luck with the 3M kit.

The options available to address headlamp pitting are dependent upon the severity of the pitting. Most kits available for headlamp restoration are fairly good at removing minor pitting (not very large or deep) as well as restoring cloudy lenses (which doesn't seem to be a problem on E9x M3's). However, if your pitting is deep and/or extensive, you really have only one option; wet sanding of the headlamp lenses. In lieu of replacing the entire headlamp assembly ($1,000 each for a new OEM part), there's not much you can do about deep pitting. I have pitting on my headlamps, and neither kit I tried was able to remove the deep pitting. It's unfortunate that BMW changed the headlamp design from the E46 M3, eliminating the ability to replace only the lens rather than the entire assembly. In summary, try to locate a good body shop with experience wet sanding headlamps. It's your best bet. Good luck!
