Importing an item from from the UK

Hi, I am wondering if anybody has had experience with importing expensive items from the UK. I am looking to get an exhaust imported, and want to know if there are any taxes and/or duties I will have to pay. the price there is significantly lower than here, and the shipping would take care of CA sales tax as well. Thanks for any help!

A $50 scrap metal description on a $5k exhaust isn't such a wise move when it comes to insuring the package.

I recently shipped a used Akra exhaust to USA and as far as I know there were no extra charges added when it reached Washington.

It might be the fact that it was a used item that it didn't incur any charges.

The shipping is insured as well, so I am not sure how the paperwork would line up...

If you exhaust all other options, I live in spain and you can have them ship it to me, and then I will forward it through the USPS. May be illegal though lol

The customs dept aren't stupid. If they see a package value of $50 with an insured value of $4 or $5k they will haul you in with a big fine. Is the exhaust new or used?

pm me and I will see if the Guy I shipped mine to will hook up with you to see if he had to pay any charges.

I stated the correct amount on the ticket and insured for the same amount.

Not sure how they are in the States these days.... I do know that you would be better off killing someone over here in Germany, than messing with duty or import taxes.

I lol'd. I would definitely not put full value. or half value. or even a quarter of the value. $50 was not meant to be taken literally but since you did, I would highly suggest hiring professional help when getting things shipped.

If you think customs is going to give a shit if you put $250-500 for value and used car exhaust as a description, you must, absolutely MUST tell me where you get your weed.

Nice pun, and thanks for your offer. I spoke with the company and they said everything is covered and have never had a problem. It's a Tubi Style rumore exhaust.

So what are you saying here?

You would put a $50 value on the scrap metal exhaust, but insure it for the full amount?

Or don't you advise insuring a $5k exhaust?

Ok so arent people importing these exhaust as it is...ask other small companies how they do it. I never put a value on my shit when I ship it from Germany.

OP, what if you tell the company to write: warranty replacement.

From Scuderia Systems...they assure me there is no problem with importing it. It will not say Tubi or BMW on it and it WILL say replacement muffler on it, which, really, it is.
