m3 oil weight
hey guys i dont own a m3 yet but am going to soon. Well we all know sythetic is expensive. And well i just wanted to know what weight the 2011 m3 take? it is prob 5w30 but just wanted to make sure before i go out and buy loads of it. I found mobil on sale and it is just tooo great of a price to pass up. 5 quarts for $21 is just too good i think.

wow never have thought of SAE 10W-60. i thought alot of m3 drivers used mobil 1 5w30. do you guys use the bmw service schedule only oil change every 10,000 miles? cause i feel like 10k is too long. And was planning on changing the oil myself inbetween at every 5k. What oil do you guys use? cause i ve always used mobil and have no problems what so ever for 6 years.

And what you will find is 95%+ stick with the recommended oil, and there are no sources less than ~$12 a litre. Just accept it.

If you're driving an e36 m3 then yea, mobil 1 5w-30 is fine. Please stick to the Castrol TWS 10w-60 for your new m3

Your best bet is to buy it from Tischer for around $10/liter: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462

Oil
Dealer is best bet, or mail order if your dealer sticks it to you. I payed $11.64/liter with club discount last week, + $20.49 for filter. Takes 8.8 liters. Don't cheap out on the oil - it's not worth sacraficing the warranty on your very expensive engine. Normal change interval with Condition Based Service (CBS) is 15-16k, so I change myself at 7,500 in-between. Check out this thread for info on DIY changes: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ght=oil+change.

Hey, that's a good price man; pretty much like Tischer with shipping included. Do you know how much the only local dealer wants? $28.50+tax. And no, I'm not joking . Just did an annual oil change myself. Yes, rather pay for it . |
