CBS Shenanigans

I had my annual low mileage oil change done back in April '10 with roughly 10K on the clock. In service date was April '09. As expected, the tech did not reset the CBS so my car continued to count down to another scheduled change at roughly 16K miles. No surprise.

On Monday Oct 18th I had my oil changed according to CBS with 15.6K in mileage. When I left the dealer I noticed that they did reset the CBS and I had 15K left before next oil change. No surprise.

Today, (less than 1 week later and only having driven 150 non-track miles) I notice that my CBS is saying that I am due for an oil change in 14K miles. Kinda surprised by this.

At this rate I'll be scheduling another oil change in about 14 weeks. Anyone ever experience anything similar?

As soon as you drive 1 mile, it's not 15K anymore; it's 14K(+). Get back to us when it changes to 13K . And it's not based on weeks, but mileage. You're not going to get a free oil change from BMW at 3K miles; don't worry about it .

I know the part about mileage rather than time. However, after my 1200 mile service it was about a month of normal driving (about 1K miles) before it dropped from 15K to 14K (it drops in 1K mile increments). This time it has dropped after less than 1 week and about only 150 miles of driving. That's the part that has me a bit confused. It should not have dropped so quickly.

If it's down to 13K by this time next week I'll give them a ring to see what's going on.
