Questions re: AA Tune and COLD start elimiation

One feature of AA's tune mentions:
* Modified VANOS camshaft remapping eliminating rough COLD start enable

Is there a downside to eliminating the COLD start?
What is the purpose of the rough COLD start other than warm up?

I think I've heard that Dinan doesn't eliminate it.. Not sure about ESS or others.

The downside would be that if you needed to pass inspections you would not only need to put your cats back on, but also get reflashed to stock.

Does that mean the COLD start eliminate is only available if you don't have cats?

Cold start Hi rpms are designed to warm up the stock cats. Start up with the AA tune is just like any other car starting up and reving at around 800RPM. Love it since it doesn't wake up my neighbors anymore

The AA feature sounds really valuable. It should have ZERO impact on passing emissions. Who tries to pass with a COLD car???

Just did the AA tune to mine yesterday. I love that feature. Specially when leaving to work in the morning and I start my car in the garage. My wife, kids and neighbors all give their thanks! If there's a downside, I haven't figured it out yet.

Cats need to be brought up to operating temps to work. This is why there are cold starts, to warm up the cats to operating temps. This is also why there is an idle blower motor sometimes in cars, to warm up the cats faster to these working operating temps.

This feature sounds really cool for those going catless and for those with really loud exhausts so it doesnt disturb others on cold starts.

Pretty much all that has been posted is correct, the faster the cats get up to operating temps the better it is for BMW which gives a stock car that awful cold start. It isn't an issue but as mentioned it is great to not have it especially in the morning.

Feel free to post any other questions in regards to the tune and I will be happy to answer them.
