Auto High beams

I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or what withe Auto high beams...
I did RTFM

I turn them on by pushing the stalk forward, but they will randomly turn off and not come back on by themselves. Also it won't turn off when cars are coming toward me. It worked for me the first night but I can't seem to get it right now.
And I do have it selected under I drive.

Am I doing something wrong?

You need to have the light selector on "Auto" (far left) and then just push out the high beam stalk once. The auto-high beam indiciator (looks like a regular high beam indicator with an A next to it) will show up on your dash.

The high beams will only turn in if the following conditions are met:
1. Very dark outside. The high beams won't come on if there are overhead highway lights, for example.
2. The car doesn't pick up any other cars coming towards you. This can be hit or miss.
3. Your headlight switch is set to auto.
4. It's enabled in your iDrive.

If the auto-high beam indicator comes on when you switch them on, then they work. How well they work will depend mostly on the area you're driving.

When I'm driving around Portland with AHB (auto high beams) enabled, they practicaly never come on. If I'm driving up to Seattle during the night (no overhead lights) they turn on and off with traffic. As soon as there are no cars in front of me, they'll flip on, and then when I start coming up on someone they will turn back off.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I have it on in idrive and on the auto setting as always but have not seen the A next to the high beam indicator. Do I just turn them on like I would normally or do I need to hold it back longer?

You turn them on like you normally would. You push it down once and it should NOT turn on the high beams themselves. You should see the indicator above the milage reading (on the top LCD on your dash.) At this point, they will be on.

Give it a shot, and let us know how it goes.
