Extended warranty or not?

She's 3 next month and BMW have offered extended warranty at £885 per year.

I do around 8,000 miles a year in the M3. Its a keeper too, I've added the JCW and intend to add a dedicated track car next and then other cars over the coming years.

So, thats the context, question is, is the extended warranty worth it?

If you really plan on keeping it for a long time then I think its completely worth it. It'll be expensive without it and its just peace of mind having it.
Got it on mine when I purchased it last month and no regrets. Also got way too much insurance with the door dings, tires, keys, etc. But that all just means that I won't have to worry about that stuff being out of pocket.

Go for it!

Depends on your risk tolerance.

The extended warranty cost is set so that they expect to make a profit on the average warranty buyer. so what are your odds.....

warranty

If your like me who likes to modify the heck out of their cars, the answer is NO. I made the mistake of ordering the competition pkg in my car and paying $2100 more only to change my wheels w/ 20 BBS LM's and H and R springs the first month I got it. Now I'm in the process of installing an Akra Evo exhaust plus a tune which will definitely VOID my existing warranty. Just like what the other forum member said, "what's your tolerance for pain". Oh, and my baby is only four months old. Hope my insight helps.

I am in the same boat, just a year behind, driving about 7K per year. With ~20K at the time the warranty runs I'm expecting to not extend. I am comfortable that having catastrophic drivetrain issues is unlikely enough that I'm leaning away from the extended warranty.

I'm more concerned with failures to electronics, Nav, and other doo-dads. The coverage for those (Platinum coverage) is much more than you noted, and gets into the territory where I think I may come out ahead self-funding over years 5, 6, and 7 even with a low-mileage car.

Dont think Ill bother. Whilst thus far Ive only changes aesthetics and the wheels Im planning to start modding properly this summer so its pointless. She hardly comes out anyway.

Thanks for your replies guys. Much appreciated.

Garage List
My warranty is due in a couple of months. I am doing around 16K miles a year. Not had a price from BMW yet but I think I will extend.

Mine was 3 years old last November. I went for the £665 option which includes the breakdown cover but has a £250 excess. £250 doesn't scare me but I'd hate to get a bill for several thousand. If it's going to happen to anyone it'll be me.
I am also going to get an Eisenmann Race but if anything blows up I'll put the old muffler back on.
