BMW to announce new sub-brand by Monday

There's been a lot of talk about the smaller, FF, Eco cars BMW has been working on. According to cars.com and jalopnik, BMW will be announcing a new sub-brand by this Monday.

By "sub-brand", I believe they may announce a whole new brand under the BMW umbrella like Mini and RR. This would be good in many ways. A lot of people feel these new cheaper, FF cars will water down the BMW brand and the reputation it's built through the years.

If a whole new brand is announced and BMW does not produce and market these vehicles as BMWs, this will be a win-win all around. BMW will take some market share from competitors and maybe even create some new segments as well. This will allow them to compete with the likes of the rest of the auto industrys mergers, buyouts, and partnerships instead of catering to a small market, where competitors like VW are capitalizing on so many segments.

If played right without sacrificng and watering down the BMW brand, this new brand or sub-brand will make BMW a stronger company without having to merge or sell to a bigger company.

Now if we can just get them to keep M cars high-revving beasts, that would be something.

Good idea - tho' I thought they'd already settled on "Megacity" for their microcar competitor (ie vs Smart).

I suppose you are referring to the anticipated 1er using FWD?

BMW just has it made. I think they are one of the smartest car companies around.
