Roll Cage Fabrication (Nascar Style Bar)

With seeing more and more talks in the track section about safety we decided to show some of the cage work we recently did on our E46 M3. Right before the SCCA Runoffs we had the passenger side of our cage re-done. Reason was for the class regulations the only way you could have you door gutted out was for safety reason (ex. your cage needing the room). Since our door was gutted out we needed a proper nascar style door bar. We took some pictures before we sent the car off to paint to see the quality of the work.

Many people who are serious about tracking should make sure when they build a cage to have it built to a class you like and would like to race. Even if you don't plan on racing it is always good to have it built for a class because you never know if you'll change your mind or it could help selling in the future. We have learned with our E46 this way. You can see we had to build a nascar style bar (or buy a new door) where we had a X-brace before.

Over this winter we will be building a cage in the E92 M3 and we will definitely make sure to post up a build of that cage.

Very cool! Can you show the drivers side as well? Drivers side was not modified right, just the passenger side?

The driver side actually already had the nascar style bar for driver safety reasons so we did not have to change that.

i miss my nascar bars from e36 race car in us. The race cars here in germany don't have them even in higher classes. seriously should be mandatory. nice work!

They are definitely the best way as really a cage is for safety first then chassis stiffening, etc. We recently just saw in our club racing a fellow racer get t-boned and he had a nascar style bar in his car but he still was hurt pretty goo (broken ribs and hip). I would not want to know how bad it could have been without the nascar style.

Nice I will be doing this to my personal car too. Half cage since I am not racing yet and still drive my car on the street but still want the added safety.

Man, I would love to do a weld in cage. Considering I still daily drive my car and intend to for awhile, it seems like having a bolt in would be the most practical. Just in case I need to lug around some folks in the back, hehe. We'll see how much preventative maintenance and upgrades I can finish and how many left over pennies are available for a cage...hehe.

I sold my Bride's awhile back, so I feel like I'd have to get some fancy buckets and harness to justify your baller cage.

Understand that, must have been hard to get rid of the brides.
