09 N54 Stock, too much lag / not as powerful
I have a stock 2009 N54 6mt with 15k miles, only have a PE exhaust. My car has been a beast since new, the throttle response in 5th and 6th has been fantastic and the car had so much torque i never needed to downshift. Just tap the gas and it would pull. Now I tap the gas and wait a few moments, than it finally pulls.
In May 2011, I had the HPFP recall done. I believe all they did was flash the car, I never had any HPFP symptoms. Ever since the car feels like it lost it's edge. Also, at the same time, I moved from FL to CA (93 to 91 octane). I am bringing in my car this weekend for an oil change but would like to get the latest software put on the car. Does anyone have any advice to get BMW to update my software? Do you know if the current N54 version is better than what I got flashed with in May 2011? And lastly, is my problem a result of going from 93 to 91 octane? Thanks!

I suspect you HAVE the latest SW which has the dreaded lag or de-tune SW. That is exactly how my car felt after I had an SW update. Post update it felt like I had to press down harder on my gas pedal to get the same type of accell, before my SW update. And there was a lot more lag - post SW update.
Here is a thread on the e90forum that might help you. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...4#post10886234 You could also ask your dealer to check the SW level and see if there is an new SW level. IF your car has the latest firmware... your really only option would be a PPK1 SW flash or a flash tune. Maybe you could talk your dealer into giving you a deal on a PPK1. Most guys say the SW only PPK can be had for $800 (SW and install). PPK2 (Power Performance Kit) is the SW plus the hardware upgrade (aux coolant radiator, spark plugs, HD radiator fan). Dackel |

^ +1 The PPK is a definate must if youre not getting an after market tune. The car is much more responsive, no lag, it does what your right foot wants it to with no wait. There are several active threads on here right now with other drivers giving their reviews of the PPK tune.

I was considering going with the power kit 1 option since I still have over a year left on my warranty. However, since they raised the price after the new year, It's no longer a great deal anymore until the prices come back down... Well see what happens when I go to BMW on Saturday.
